(Yesterday I finished my first book since June. I have no idea WTF my problem is this year. I am not setting aside time to read AT ALL. I need to deal with this.)

I just finished www:watch as an audiobook as well. I think it's funny the author was bitching online about not being to make it as a full time author. Most authors don't write full-time, they do other writing or have other careers.
I enjoyed the book, but I think it could have used another couple passes by a good editor. Too much dialogue, though the fact that one of the protagonists was insubstantial was part of the problem. And I agree, the 16 year old wasn't authentic, at least for some parts.
I got through The Windup Girl as an audiobook, and I think I would have floundered if I had been reading it. There's some pretty slow spots there, and the descriptions of heat and humidity make me lethargic. But - it doesn't go where I thought it would, and ends up being really interesting and fast-paced. If you can slog through the part where you're stuck, it's worth it.
I promise you, when a 16 year old girl is curled up on the lap of the boy she hopes to lose her virginity to, they are NOT talking about hard science. At least not for long.
When the 16 year old in question is emphatically non-neurotypical (perhaps not in the same fashion as her father, but her brain is quite literally wired differently...), I think it's at least plausible.
