Only 8gb of 250gb (primary) was being detected - it would boot, sometimes, but couldnt actually access anything (I tried to freezer it to get some files off - but my system wouldn't detect it - Ileia says most of her important stuff is on her external anyway). Trying to format the secondary hdd, errored out in xp setup saying that the hdd is damaged - I had deleted the partition and started it fresh as well. Sad times |":

Both HDs failing at once? That just seems a little... unlikely.

It's spelled "unlucky"

I'm just thinking about it in terms of probability. It would seem to me that two HDs dying at once suggests something wrong beyond the drives. Cable, PSU, mobo, and IDE controller all come to mind as potential culprits, beyond software-caused thrash conditions.

It's just... too convenient.

Again, I trust Jay's judgment.

Keep one of the broken HD's around. Once you get the new HD setup then totally destroy the broken HD with a hammer in front of the computer. If there are any pieces bigger than a matchbox then you aren't done pounding yet. Some may say computers are unthinking inanimate objects but I haven't had a HD problem since the 90's and I attribute it to this.

As a total side note, when you burn a floppy as warning to the others never ever do it inside. That shit lets off a lot of smoke.
