Politics and Other Current Events

I am scrupulously *not* playing the RNC drinking game right now (where one drinks every time they say something blatantly self-contradictory like "John McCain is pro-life and thinks that America is a country where we should be able to decide our own futures" -- this is pretty much an exact quote). I am, however, seething. And amused that the ( Read more... )

"And amused that the people who built the RNC stage are too dumb to not have realized that the picture he's in front of make him look like he's being badly green-screened into his own convention."

*laugh* I looked up a few minutes ago to see him with a plain green background behind him. I was wondering if they were setting it up so we could play the McCain's acceptance speech green-screen play-at-home game. I already have images of a Star Wars duel in the background being aired on Colbert Report.

"(Hey, they're dragging some women out of the center, I wonder if she was trying to take photos?)"

Looked to me like she had a banner with an "inappropriate" slogan which she'd tried to hold up to a camera. Looked like it was on cloth so she could smuggle it in more easily.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, I largely agree with your longest paragraph.

Well, it's been going back and forth between green-screen and blue-screen for the last hour or so -- I suspect the YouTube will be hysterical.

The thing is, I think almost everyone I know largely agrees with my longest paragraph; I'm not sure if I think that means I've got a good shot at starting a legitimate third party (or subverting one of the extant ones) or just that I don't know enough people. Probably the second, sadly.

She looked like one of those CODEPINK people. I think McCain's response to that situation made him look like an asshole.

illogicalvulcan saw somebody with a sign which said, "McCain votes against vets". I'm not entirely sure it was the same person...

You're right, it looked like she was doing the same thing their news page said they had people do last night.

I'm running in 2016 on the Less Bullshit ticket. Wanna be my running mate?

No, but you should run with my dad on the "veto everything" ticket -- I think his theory is that if you can't get 2/3 on something, it wasn't a good idea in the first place.

I'll probably wind up running Democratic, since it looks like Obama is going to try to take the party back that way -- I was listening to a University of Chicago Law Faculty speech on "Why Conservatives Should Vote Obama" the other day and it was almost entirely centered around the economy.

Actually I will run on the "do nothing" ticket. We have enough laws already, so we can just send congress home for a few years.

I was going to run on the "Everbody Just Shut Up" ticket.

Well, yes, my point wasn't that you can't *get* a good latte for less than $5, my point was that I think the way the coasts present themselves to the center is roughly equivalent to the way Vassar presented itself to Poughkeepsie, and we saw how well *that* went down. There's got to be a way to cross the divide, and starting by appreciating the virtues of their stuff and pointing out that not all of our stuff is "weird" or "inaccessible" is probably a good way to go.

Palin pisses me off so damn bad. The bridge thing was the last straw.

Join me on a 2020 "Constitutional Monarchy - at least it has a Constitution!" ticket?

Heh. You sound like gdmusumeci -- he's pretty sure that BushII is the reincarnation of Bad King George.

I'm just gonna have to to do it myself. If I go to law school in 2010, I should graduate in 2013. The next Presidential election is 2016, so I think that's a bit quick to try to get national name recognition, but with a well-placed Senate run or governorship, I could be in place for 2020...

I'd vote for you.

If I'm not too busy running myself. *grin*
