I hear good things about this Lucky store. Is it really cheaper than Safeway?

Yup. Also, it's a *lot* bigger (well, okay, the Lucky by my house is bigger than either of the Safeways or the Andronico's by my house), and the quality seems to be about the same between store brands.

I generally go there because it's the only one of the local stores that carries the one fiber-enriched yogurt I'll eat (Yo+) in the one flavor I'll eat of it (cherry). While I'm there, I might as well get everything else we need, but yes, overall, I think the prices are lower. Plus, they have the neat self-checkout things, which I find both useful and fascinating.

Intriguing. I live right by Safeway. There don't appear to be any Lucky stores really close by, but I guess if I'm in the area, I'll check it out.

Well, it's right near the ECP BART where the new Joann's is, and the bookstore. :)

It's not sufficiently interesting to be worth a dedicated trip, though, unless there's some specific thing you're looking for and can't find (in which case you should tell me and I'll check for it when I by there tomorrow).

Hurrah for cooking! I have a recipe for pumpkin bread that uses olive oil that is crazy tasty and would be a good way to use up that leftover pumpkin. For crusts I am partial to Mark Bittman's in How To Cook Everything - essentially butter is awesome.

I made pumpkin bread the other day that is mighty tasty. It's from the King Arthur Flour Baking Book.

As far as spices go, I do subs all the time, so that should be fine.

Cooking is lots of fun, even when you put salt in the cookies instead of sugar. (I still feel dumb when I think about that one.)

(WTF is that about, anyway? Every pie recipe ever calls for 2 c., so why does pumpkin come in 15 and 29 oz. cans?)

I think for the same reason that hot dogs come 10 to a pack and buns come 8. Nonetheless, it sounds as though it will be very tasty. Happy Pie day!
