About the Concert
When I first heard about our CD debut,I wasn’t surprised as expected. What I felt was, “ Finally, we’re standing on the start line, from here on, it’s going to be a fight (battle)”. But, I didn’t feel particularly pressured. Because I believe in what we’ve accomplished and what we’ve been doing up to now, so I was able to accept things as they are by thinking that we’ll be fine if we just put in all our effort from here on. That’s why when the people around me first told me, “Congratulations on your debut”, it really didn’t hit me. But after I started recording the CD, it slowly sank into me. Obviously, it’s one ( important) step. By debuting, our horizons when it comes to work will widen even more. I’m really looking forward to experiencing how KAT-TUN will go forward into the future. Another thing is that when we were shooting the promotion video, they had to film the same scene and the same dance moves many times; that was tough (laughs). But more than that, I realized that this was another job that pros do. It was very stimulating; and I had fun. As a result, we were able to come up with very cool images; and I when I saw it I thought, “ Ah, it was really good that I did my best!” . But I don’t think that, “ From now on, since we are professionals, there are many things that need to be changed.” As KAT-TUN, there’s no meaning in coming out with the same things that made us good as KAT-TUN and to force something good that only the 6 of us as a group can do. I think it’s impossible to try to achieve something like that to the point of changing things. At the same time, just as we’ve done up to now, I’d like the six of us to be able to bring out what’s best in each us through our respective solo work. Because we’re a group who’s grown by recognizing each others’ individual strengths; everyone understands what I want to do, in turn, I accept and understand the other members’ uniqueness. But, maybe the other members view me as a bit of a heretic (laughs). Well, I guess it’s ok to have at least one person in the group who’s like that, right? (laughs)
Specifically, if I were to give you an example of my unique individuality; I’d probably say that I’m good at “sounds”. Even during my solos at our concerts, I’ve usually focused on songs that “one can listen to” rather than “one can see.” In short, I feel strongly about wanting people to listen to the sounds that I create. During this concert, I think that I want to firmly be able to express that uniqueness. But, for this solo song, I asked my favorite artist to compose the melody for me, so it’s actually a piece born out of collaboration. Now, you might think that this sounds contradictory to what I just said about “bringing out my uniqueness”; but when it comes to creating music of high quality, I don’t think it’s right to insist obstinately that I should depend only 100% on my ability to do so. Because of this collaboration, the lyrics that I wrote are able to be expressed in great music. It’s not only a great thing; but the range of possibilities of how it can be expressed becomes wider. In the future, whether I return to composing my songs as well as writing the lyrics or whether I’m going to collaborate again depends on what’s best at that time for me to be able to express my world. Another thing is that whenever it may be, for me who loves music, I would like to continue to grow as a person through music. I don’t want to be swept away, I want to remain firm ( stoic ).
For this concert, there’ll be places that I’ll be going to for the first time. In the other places that we’ve done our concerts before, I noticed that the local audiences are really passionate ( hot, full of energy). The vibe that I felt from them is “today, let’s have fun!” They open to us with such fresh feeling and give us a lot of energy, so when we perform before them it’s a lot of fun! That’s why, this time as well…I’m expecting a lot from everyone (laughs). Of course, in terms of energy, as always, I don’t plan on loosing to the people who’ll be going to our concerts (laughs). Then, sometime in the future, I’d like us to be able to go on a large-scale nationwide tour. In that way, we’ll be able to touch a lot more of our fans… Something like, from Hokkaido we’ll cross the mainland and then end the tour with an outdoor concert in Okinawa… a good plan, right? (laughs). Sometime in the future, I’d like it to happen!
Overall, the CD has a nice balance of new songs and the original songs that we’ve done so far, so I want everyone to really look forward to it ( have high expectations of it).
About Past Achievements and Future Plans
I’m just talking about myself, but I’m the type who works steadfast at the things that I like to do. That’s true when it comes to music, but it’s also true when it comes to boxing, which I like very much. Even when I was doing “Dream Boys”, I never failed to do my training. Because of it, I was able to build up my physical stamina; and I want to continue doing it, hopefully, someday I’ll be offered work that is boxing-related !? ( laughs). Another thing is that by getting the chance to work on stage, I have become mentally stronger as well. To be able to go through tough performances until the very end requires a lot of will.
Right now, it’s difficult to express formally what KAT-TUN’s existence means to me personally. But I feel that KAT-TUN is like a “house”. Because of that house, the 6 of us can each freely do what we want to do….Honestly, up to now, for us to be able to do what we want is really a thing of happiness. Even the staff respects us more for our “being KAT-TUN” rather than for us“being idols.” In any case, when I dyed my hair back to black from blonde, I got scolded a bit (laughs). I was told “ Blonde is more Ueda-like, it really looked good on you, why’d you change it back to black!” It’s strange, isn’t it? To be scolded that way. I thought so too within myself. But I’m happy because that showed the extent to which people look after us! For certain, even in the future, I will remain as I am just as KAT-TUN will continue “being KAT-TUN.”
Message to All The Fans
For this concert, our goal is to bring enjoyment to all the people who have supported us since the past as well as all the people who’ve come to like us after our debut. To all the people who’ve supported KAT-TUN, we want everyone to be able to feel our gratitude!
