My (step)cousin Siri is one of the most amazing people I know. She is working for the Sojourner Truth charter school in North Minneapolis, which is a predominantly Latino/African American suburb. Tracking (deciding kids' fate) starts in preschool. Hell, it starts before they're born. You and I just happened to be on the lucky end of it.

Don't apologize for that. You deserve what you've earned. But other people deserve the chance to earn it, too. And if you feel that, really feel it, then do something.

It's why I want to teach--it's why I have to. Because in the end, it's not about you and me and them. It's about us. It's about taking what we've got and running with it. It's about making something instead of just consuming.

I have not talked to you in many moons, friend. It's good to hear your voice.

Its just so hard to really want to try to change a system that works for yourself, y'know? And that's the problem. But being aware is a good start, and I'll take it from there.
