Jin strummed the guitar softly as he waited for their manager inside the studio. He quickly glanced up as a slim figure walked through the door, but he wasn’t expecting to see Kame of all people. Their eyes met for a fraction of a second and all at once, raw emotions threatened to burst out of his heart, but he kept them secured. He was used to this kind of things anyway.

Kame dropped his gaze the moment their eyes met. He didn’t really understand why, but he was afraid of looking deeply at those brown orbs. It’s as if they were able to see past his façade, which had taken so long build.

Kame took wide strides towards one end of the studio where the stereo was, ignoring the man seated on the sofa. Once he reached the corner, he pressed “Play” on the stereo and instantly, the room was filled with slow, steady beats. He closed his eyes and tapped his foot three times before his body began to move in synch with the music.

Jin sat there, mesmerized by Kame’s fluid and graceful movements. The way his hair swayed, the way his feet hit the floor lightly with each step, the way his body twisted and turned, they were all beautiful to Jin. So beautiful that it causes him pain just by watching the younger man.

Kame is unaware of what’s happening around him. The sound coming from the stereo was all that filled his ears and dancing to it was all that filled his mind.

Jin tore his eyes away from Kame for a moment to look at his watch. He had been waiting for an hour already. Where had their manager gone to?

Thinking of endless possibilities to drive his mind away from Kame, Jin soon didn’t realize that he was already lost in his own thoughts.

“What are you still doing here?” a voice knocked him back to his senses.

Jin’s eyes moved to the younger man sitting on the floor. He was too busy thinking that he hadn’t noticed that Kame had stopped the music and was taking a short break.

“I’m waiting for our manager. He said he had something to tell me. How about you? Why are you still here?”

“I’m practicing, as you can see.” Kame replied without looking at him.

“Oh.”

Silence fell between them. Kame blinked a few times and chugged down some water before turning back to the stereo.

“How long can we keep this up?” Jin’s voice broke the silence.

“Keep what up Akanishi?”

“That. And all this pretending.”

“You mean the formalities? And what exactly are we pretending?” Kame asked.

“Yes. What we have now, it’s all pretend isn’t it?”

“I don’t understand what you mean Jin.” The last word rolled out bitterly from Kame’s tongue.

“Be angry with me, if that’s what you want Kame.” Unlike the younger man’s words, Jin’s were said softly, as if he were afraid of breaking something invisible.

Kame sighed. “We already talked about this. The world and KAT-TUN have already forgiven you, you know.”

“The world and the group may have forgiven me Kame, but you haven’t.” Jin said.

“Stop being ridiculous. Of course I’ve forgiven you.”

“Then look me in the eye and tell me you’ve forgiven me.”

Kame didn’t respond.

“You want to know the truth Kame?”

Still no response.

“You’re afraid to trust me, that’s why you can’t forgive me.”

At this, Kame turned to face Jin who was still settled on the sofa. “You know what, maybe I am. You go your own way too much without thinking about the consequences. That’s why I could never trust you fully if you say you’re never leaving again.”

Jin was hurt. It showed on his face. And when he said nothing more, Kame turned back at the stereo and pressed “Play”.

The younger man shut his eyes like he did before, but he couldn’t concentrate. Blood was pounding loudly in his ears. He moved to the music like he did before, but now his movements had lost their fluidity and were now filled with anger.

Jin saw Kame struggling with his dancing and it pained him. He stood up and walked quietly towards the younger man.

Kame’s eyebrows were scrunched up in frustration. Then suddenly, a warm hand grasped him and held him close. Hiss eyes flew open and he found Jin’s brown orbs staring intently at him. He squirmed a bit, trying to get away but Jin held him even tighter.

“Waltz with me.” Jin’s voice, barely a whisper, reached Kame’s ears.

“What?” Kame asked, surprised.

“Please, waltz with me.” Jin repeated in his ear.

“Why?”

“So that you’ll know that you can trust me. This is how we learned to trust each other in the first place, isn’t it?”

Kame only stood there, not knowing what to do as Jin continued to hold him in his arms. They both were unmoving for a long time, holding their breaths, waiting for the other to do something. But soon, Kame felt Jin’s grip on him loosen and he was alone on the dance floor again.

He watched Jin’s retreating back for a few seconds.

“Wait.”

Jin spun around after hearing the younger man’s voice.

“What is it?” Jin replied nonchalantly.

“Th-the song isn’t right.” Kame stammered.

The older man cracked a smile and moved towards the younger man. He lifted Kame’s chin up and said, “Why should it matter?”

“I don’t know.” Kame replied.

“We used to dance to any kind of music you know.”

“But you were asking for a waltz.” said Kame, his face now flushed a slight tinge of pink.

Jin chuckled lightly and held Kame’s waist with his right hand and Kame’s right hand in his left. “It’s still dancing no matter how you look at it.”

Kame smiled, his eyes brimming with tears and buried his face in Jin’s shirt. “I missed you so much.”

“I’ve been back for almost a year and a half now, how could you miss me?”

“I meant I missed Bakanishi.” Kame laughed.

“Did I say or do something stupid?” Jin asked puzzled.

“No,” Kame began. “You’re just being yourself.”

They both fell silent. But it wasn’t the same awkward silence they felt before. The silence they now had was a comforting one, embracing them both securely.

“Promise me you’ll never leave.” Kame whispered.

Jin embraced him tighter. “I promise.”
