of course, that metaphor migh tfall apart a little, if only because the drummer/band in question probably doesn't have the money to pay for the drummer to screw around with it that much. i'm a big fan of the many many mics pasted all over the room, like ALL over the room, capturing the ambience of the space. it's how in utero was recorded, and it's still one of my top ten records ever.

but that's just my opinion on recording, not life. i think we screw up cuzz it's our nature, since we live in an imperfect world, to be imperfect. it's how we learn, but more importantly, it puts front and center the beauty of Grace.

right on. different recording techniques are good for different things. numerous mics, for instance, make it difficult to get good phase coherence between them all. but then, for a learner, that's a valuable thing to learn. man, it's tricky!
