going from this to this:

*using PSP 8*

PLEASE DON'T COPY THIS ICON, USE THE STEPS TO CREATE SOMETHING THAT IS YOUR OWN; THAT'S MAKES IT MORE FUN, ANYWAY :)

1. First I took this picture from Emmy-Rossum.net and cropped it down to a 100x100 base:

2. Then I duplicated that base layer once and set that layer to MULTIPLY. OPACITY 100 then duplicated that layer 3 more times and set them all to SCREEN. OPACITY 100 except the top-most one which I set to OPACITY 50. My layers look like this:

3. I then duplicated the base layer once more, moved it above the top screened layer, set it to SOFT LIGHT. OPACITY 100 and desaturated it (Shift+H > saturation to -100). I now have this:

4. Then I created a New Adjustment Layer (Layers > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation/Lightness) and set the Saturation to -35:

I now have this:

5. Then I took this light texture by teh_indy and set it to SCREEN. OPACITY 100.

6. I then took the text tool and typed 3 x's:

using these settings and the color white (#FFFFFF):

7. Then I used this text brush by ohpaintbrush also in white and set it to LIGHTEN. OPACITY 100.

8. THEN I selected the Preset Shape Tool (the tool that's used to make boxes, lol) and made a white border around the parimeter of the icon. My properties look like this:

9. And I'm done :) Here's my result:

**Opacities for layers may vary depending upon your image; don't be afraid to experiment!**

I hope this helps someone, LOL

Please lemme know what you all thought of this :)
