you know, of course that you are part of my inspiration here. And of course, I'm not eating right *sigh* but at least I'm aware of it and taking steps. I wish diet soda didn't taste so nasty.
I do not have, nor do I expect to be able to afford, a personal trainer, so most of the workout stuff is going to be by the seat of my pants, so to speak. I don't even know where to begin, but if I DON'T begin, I will be even more miserable than I think I am right now.

So...thanks :-) for the inspiration

Thanks for the compliment, I appreciate it. You don't need a personal trainer. Most of them are idiots who paid 50 dollars for a certificate online. My recommendations for beginners are always these three websites:
http://www.stumptuous.com
http://www.fitday.com
http://ww.menshealth.com

Yes I know the last is a men's fitness site, but there is NOTHING and I repeat NOTHING that's different about the way a man should train and the way a woman should train, and they have great recipes, workout plans, diet tips and great motivation.

If you want to covert to diet soda, start by drinking regular and putting a little diet in, then slowly increase the amount of diet in the mixture until eventually you're drinking only diet. Takes longer but it's worth it.

Or you can forgo it altogether and drink carbonated water. My favorite is Topo Crico - costs less than most sodas

Splenda stuff isn't too bad. Even I can drink it...

And where do I get one of these certificates?

As far as men and women, the only difference is what kind of look you're aiming for. Most men's programs are geared towards bigger muscles..

ALL exercises build bigger muscles. There's no such thing as "scultping" a muscle. Muscle grows or doesn't. Fat is lost or isn't. Muscle shape, and to a lesser degree muscle size, is determined by genetics. 99% of the women out there CANNOT obtain big muscles without erogenic aids.

It's one of the fitness industry's urban myths - that you can "sculpt and tone" muscles. That just can't happen.
