HAEHYUK VERSION ~
"Tell us something we don't already know, Kyuhyun-ssi." The effeminate man yawned and leaned back on his swivel chair from across the long table, regarding the brunet by the projector with something akin to mockery.
The man addressed stiffened as he recognized the hint of teasing carefully concealed within his boss' words - despite the business-like, almost mechanical tone, of his voice.
"I'm sorry, Sir. It was so stupid of me to waste your precious time in discussing the ergonomics employed in creating our products when I could've gone straight to more... uh, pressing matters, such as the profit margin of the latest batch of swivel chairs we're launching into the market. Really sorry." Kyuhyun replied in an equally stiff tone, the pulsing vein on his temple a dead giveaway of how his patience was wearing thin.
He could very well see the hint of a smirk making its way onto his boss' face, and Kyuhyun wanted to punch things right then and there. He was, however, holding back for the fear that he might end up killing the man if he were to let his emotions loose. And if he were to do just that, he wouldn't be stupid enough to do it in front of the whole Board of Trustees. Nope.
"Very well then. Carry on." The man didn't even bother hiding his smirk this time, finding it amusing that Kyuhyun seemed to be having an inner battle as he forwarded the slides of the presentation, taking out his anger on the poor controller.
~
"Kyu? Baby? Are you still mad?" Sungmin asked cautiously as he placed a hand on Kyuhyun's shoulder, said hand being shrugged off almost immediately, an indirect answer to his query.
They were alone now - the rest of the board having gone out after Leeteuk, the vice-president, who took the cue to leave as the president and the head of the marketing department started to have a heated argument about the marginal losses Kyuhyun's proposal would incur. They were, ever politely, asked to settle their differences before they proceed - the chief architect Donghae taking the initiative to draw the blinds before exiting the conference room, along with the others who had worry etched all over their faces.
"Kyubear... Listen to me. You know I never really mean any of the things I said." Sungmin was worried by this time. It was the first time Kyuhyun ever rejected body contact with him. The man wasn't clingy, per se, but he was to Sungmin. He was starting to think that he had indeed gone too far this time around. He walked around Kyuhyun's chair and knelt in front of him, cupping his cheeks with his delicate hands.
"I know you don't. But it doesn't make it hurt any less. Being called stupid by your own boyfriend isn't really endearing, you know." Kyuhyun continued to sulk, wriggling his face out of Sungmin's hold and crossing his arms in front of his chest, showing how upset he was with the whole of his body.
It had always been like this. Kyuhyun didn't understand why it had to be like this. He knew that Sungmin was only "protecting" their relationship. Although he scowled whenever the company owner's excuse for a son, Choi Siwon, would lean in a tad bit closer than necessary towards his Sungmin. Jealousy would always boil in his veins, and he couldn't even count the times he wanted to yank Sungmin out of Siwon's hold and shout to the world that the man was his, and his alone. He wasn't willing to share, thank you very much. Still, he held his composure. After all, he himself had agreed that it didn't matter that nobody else knew about their relationship, they "only needed each other," as Sungmin had so aptly put it. He was now wondering if he made the right decision in doing so.
"I'm sorry, Kyubear. I just can't help it. It became some kind of a reflex, a defense mechanism. I don't know why, but it just seems to be a sort of an automatic reaction whenever you're near, here at work. I just don't want to arouse suspicions," Sungmin sighed, placing his hands on Kyuhyun's knees instead, relieved that the latter didn't flinch this time around.
"I want to believe you, I really do. But I have a hard time doing so sometimes. You make it so hard for me, and I can't help but wonder if you're really doing this to protect us..." Kyuhyun emphasized the word with air quotes. "... or you just don't want others to know that you're already taken."
"What!? You can't be serious, Kyu! You know that's not how it is!" Sungmin spluttered, arms flailing, wanting to knock some sense into the younger.
"It surely looks like it to me," Kyuhyun huffed, stubbornly refusing to meet Sungmin's gaze.
"Oh god. Is this about Siwon again!?" Sungmin shook Kyuhyun by the shoulder, forcing him to look up at him.
"And if I say yes?" Kyuhyun challenged, finally looking at Sungmin, straight in the eye.
"How many times do I have to tell you, Kyu!? Siwon is just a close friend. We basically knew each other since we were in diapers! Being with him would be like, incest! I love him like a real brother." Sungmin's brows furrowed as he tried to prove his point.
"Which is why I'm worried! He was already a part of your life long before we came to know each other. If he decided that he wanted more, he could easily beat me, having had a head start of what, twenty years? And brother my ass. No brother gropes his brother like that." Kyuhyun stood up as well, ears turning dangerously red in anger.
"Come on, Kyu! Siwon has always been, and will always be, touchy-feely. He does it to everyone! He does it to you! Why the hell are you so jealous? It's not like you and Hyukjae-hyung aren't basically glued at the hips all the time, too. Even more so than Siwon and I!" Sungmin accused, his emotions getting the better of him.
"Oh please! We're always together because we work in the same department, dumbass. And really!? Hyukjae-hyung!? The whole company knows about his steady relationship with the chief architect. It's hard not to when they're groping each other every chance they get. Or are you blind now, as well?" Kyuhyun's chest heaved, eyes glazed with unshed tears.
"I-I know. It's just that... Damn it. This is embarrassing to admit. But I get jealous too," Sungmin muttered under his breath, his very own tears threatening to spill as well.
"Of Hyukjae-hyung!?" Kyuhyun all but shrieked, thoroughly flabbergasted by the new piece of information.
"Y-Yes. You seem so close with each other and you spend more time with him than you do with me. But I understand. I completely understand. Which is why I don't throw a fit over something as trivial as hand holding unlike a certain someone I know," Sungmin chided, albeit playfully.
"Ya!" Kyuhyun smacked Sungmin's arm as soon as he figured out the implication of what he just said. He was a genius, but when it comes to Sungmin, he can be slow sometimes.
"So... Are we quits now?" Sungmin grinned, all pudgy cheeks and pearly whites, just like how Kyuhyun liked it.
"Fine! But only if you give me a kiss," Kyuhyun smiled and moved forward to trap Sungmin between him and the conference table, hoisting Sungmin to sit on it with the latter immediately snaking his legs around his torso.
They kissed for a good five minutes before they hastily broke apart when an impatient Kim Heechul had promptly banged knocked on the door, demanding that they proceed immediately or he will have both of their heads chopped off if the delay caused his appointment at the spa to be canceled. Both knew better than to argue with the head of the design team. After all, nobody wanted to deal with a pissed Kim Heechul.
"Happy Monthsary, by the way." Kyuhyun whispered as he gave Sungmin's nose one last peck before he stepped back, going to unlock the door where a furious Heechul and the rest of the board, who oddly looked as if they were cowering, stood. The meeting proceeded without further ado and Sungmin had been too absorbed in the presentation to notice the lack of the pieces of silver he laid on top of his portfolio earlier.
~
Kyuhyun smirked as he raised the jiggly silver objects on eye level, his face softening into a smile when he realized that the key chain Sungmin used was the one he had gotten for him on their last monthsary. Their engraved initials on it shone in the light and Kyuhyun couldn't help but beam.
He knew he ought to be guilty for this, but Sungmin should've known he had this coming. Even if he knew that his boyfriend didn't really mean it when he called him names, his ego was hurt pretty bad. He figured a little revenge wouldn't hurt. His intentions were pure, after all.
With that thought in mind, Kyuhyun packed up his laptop and other belongings and exited the now-empty conference room, resolute on giving Sungmin the best surprise ever as he pranced towards Ryeowook's office-cum-kitchen, thankful for the first time that the advertising agent kept an oven in his office for emergency purposes.
~
Kyuhyun beamed at the cake in front of him. It was a simple one-tiered-guitar-inspired design. Okay, it wasn't that simple. Kyuhyun had to bake the cake itself three times, finally getting it right after Ryeowook threatened to kick him out of his office. He had let Ryeowook put the fondant in, knowing fully well that he shouldn't be trusted with things that had something to do with... um... the intricacies of baking. He fished a small velvet box from his pocket and took the tiny piece of silver out. He admired the band for a good measure before mounting it on one of the fake frets of the cake. He smiled one last time at his handiwork and boxed it, careful not to damage the icing.
He cursed as soon as he looked up to the clock above Ryeowook's desk. It was fifteen minutes after five o'clock. He had been so engrossed in baking that he hadn't taken notice of the time. He bid Ryeowook a hasty goodbye, the man grumbling about how he was never to step foot in his office ever again because he didn't know how to do proper after care. "Teflon is sensitive, you moron!" Ryeowook had shouted, but Kyuhyun paid it no heed. He had to catch up with Sungmin.
Kyuhyun barged into Sungmin's office with a huge smile, said smile dropping almost immediately when he found it empty. He hadn't had the time to lament over it before his phone vibrated in his pocket. He hurriedly took it out and read the incoming message.
To: Kyubear
From: Minimi
Hey, Kyubear. I guess I left my keys at home. I went looking for you in your office but Hyukjae said that you haven't returned there after the meeting. Anyway, I'll just take the bus home. We could pick my car up later tonight. Call me when you get this. I love you.
"Oh crap!" Kyuhyun slapped himself on the forehead for being so careless. He hadn't thought that Sungmin would opt to go home without him in the absence of his car keys. He was about to call Sungmin's number when he caught a glimpse of the familiar mop of black hair through the glass windows of Sungmin's office, walking all the way down on the road. Thinking that his plan can still be salvaged, he ran with all his might towards the elevator, wondering if it had always taken this long to get to the ground floor from the thirteenth floor.
Kyuhyun was out of the elevator even before the doors had completely opened, ignoring the guard Shindong's whistles as he breezed through the revolving doors, causing the poor and unsuspecting Yesung to fall on his butt at the sudden momentum. He ran as fast as he could to the bus stop, kicking the dirt on the road as he saw the door close just before he screamed Sungmin's name.
Sungmin didn't notice him and had started to find a seat, settling himself on the first empty seat just beside the door. Kyuhyun hastily fished his phone out of his pocket and pressed speed dial #1. Sungmin answered just before the bus moved to a start.
"Min! I'm here!" Kyuhyun panted as he sidled up beside the bus, running like a madman on the sidewalk.
"Here? Where?" Sungmin whipped his head back and forth, wondering where his boyfriend was.
"Look... below!" Kyuhyun answered, the box of cake threatening to fall from his hand.
"Oh! What the hell are you doing?" Sungmin's eyes grew wide as he saw that his lover was indeed "here."
"I have your keys! I stole it earlier when you weren't looking. I just wanted to take revenge on you for calling me stupid and... and I wanted to surprise you," Kyuhyun continued in between gasps, wondering why Sungmin hadn't stopped the driver yet. It was nearing an intersection and he didn't think he could run all the way home.
"You mean when we were kissing? Damn it, Kyu! I've never thought that you can be so cunning." Sungmin sounded amused, not breaking eye contact from the still running Kyuhyun as they conversed on the phone.
"I know! I'm sorry! Can you please tell the driver to stop now!?" Kyuhyun pleaded, his legs ready to give out under him.
"Nah. I don't think so. Serves you right for being so childish," Sungmin smirked, sticking his tongue out at Kyuhyun who was looking imploringly at him.
"You can't be serious! Don't leave me!" Kyuhyun was at his wit's end. The bus was gaining momentum and his legs seriously felt like jelly by this time.
"I am. Goodbye, Kyu." Sungmin simply said and flicked his phone shut.
Kyuhyun had his mouth agape, cake box falling on a heap on the road, a scream of Sungmin's name leaving his lips as he took in the sight of a ten-wheeler truck speeding out of control towards the bus - the bus Sungmin was in. There was an explosion and he swears he saw the familiar mop of black hair soaked in red before the world turned black.

KIDDING!
"Kyubear? Kyu! Kyuhyun!" Kyuhyun snapped out of his reveries as Sungmin shook him by the shoulder, worry painted all over the elder's features.
"Oh my god, Minnie! You're alive! I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to steal your keys to prank you. I never wanted you to die. Please... Please... Don't leave me!" Kyuhyun burst into tears, startling the other as he held onto him for dear life.
"What's are you talking about, Kyu? I'm not going anywhere. I was just telling you how Siwon and I are just brothers and you don't have to be jealous of him and ---" Sungmin's words were cut off when Kyuhyun smashed their lips together, the kiss hungry and feisty, not quite like the tender ones they usually share.
"I don't care about Siwon anymore! Just don't leave me!" Kyuhyun bawled once again as soon as they parted, clinging onto Sungmin's waist tightly.
"I have no plans of leaving you, silly!" Sungmin smiled, wiping his lover's tears with the back of his hand.
"You better not!" Kyuhyun sniffled, the pout on his lips on full force.
"Really. What made you think I was ---"
*knock knock*
"Ya! Seriously!? You shouldn't take your personal issues here. I couldn't care fucking less if you fucking fucked in every fucking corner of your fucking apartment, but if I miss my fucking Thai massage appointment because of your fucking lovers' quarrel, I swear to God, even if I don't believe in him, I am going to cut you both!" Kim Heechul's shrieks wafted through the door - metal door.
Kyuhyun immediately ran to the door and opened it, revealing an infuriated Heechul, a smug-looking Leeteuk, and the rest of the board who had goofy smiles plastered on their faces.
"How did you---?" Sungmin started, only to be interrupted by the resident diva.
"You're not really being discreet when your shouts of 'harder' and 'faster' in your office during lunch break can be heard by the entirety of the population of SM's workers, Mister President," Heechul supplied, already making himself comfortable on his previously vacated seat, snapping his fingers at the others to hurry. "Faster people! We haven't got all day!"
Sungmin turned beet red and Kyuhyun spluttered incomprehensible words, his mouth opening and closing like a fish.
Leeteuk merely chuckled and seated himself beside the fuming man. "Don't worry guys. Heechul was exaggerating when he said that. Only the people in this floor knows. He's just being pissy since this new Chinese masseuse in that Thai massage spa across the street hadn't taken up his offer on a date."
"Yet!" Heechul shrieked like a banshee. "What type of Chinese man works in a Thai spa anyway!?"
"Apparently, your type." Siwon wiggled his eyebrows at Heechul, a file folder flying across the table to smack him squarely on the face.
The whole room erupted in laughter as Siwon panicked about his ruined hair, part of Heechul's anger subsiding and his usual smug look back in place.
Kyuhyun laced his fingers with Sungmin's under the table, feeling happier than he had ever been in a long time. And definitely more free. Yup.
If only Siwon would scoot farther from Sungmin though.
Well, I guess you can't have everything, he thought as he pecked Sungmin's cheeks, earning catcalls and the sound of fake puking (courtesy of Heechul) from the rest of the occupants of the room.
Life couldn't get better.
