Fever

Wilson quickly got into his car, and fumbled with the key for a moment before he finally got it into the ignition. He started the car, and turned on the air conditioning up high. He tried to loosen his tie, but he couldn’t at first, his hands were shaking too hard. But then he finally managed to get it off, and he wiped his face with the towel that was carefully folded on the passenger’s seat. He always kept a towel inside the car, he didn’t understand why Sam found it so odd. Now, and even way back then too. Wilson drank some water, even though the bottle was warm from being in the hot sun all day, but he drank even more and tossed the bottle on the seat too.

He looked at his hands, they were still shaking, though not as bad as before. He gripped the steering wheel tightly with one hand, then he put the car in reverse, but he kept his foot firmly on the brake and leaned back in his seat and closed his eyes.

“Wilson!!”

He jumped at the loud knocking on the door.

“Wilson!!” House yelled again, still pounding on the door.

Wilson sighed, put the car back in park, and turned to face House.

“Just open the damn door!” House yelled.

Wilson sighed loudly again, and pushed the button to roll down the window, but he didn’t look at House, he stared straight ahead.

“House, I’m going home. Now.”

“Wilson, I’m not letting you go home like this.”

“House, I’m fine.”

“No you’re not fine. I saw you.”

Wilson slowly turned to face House.

“You saw me?”

“Yes, I did.”

“But I thought you were with Cuddy…”

“Just forget about Cuddy, okay. Just forget about her…” House said, in a much softer voce.

“But….I….” Wilson said, but he stopped, and turned away from House again.“No buts. Okay? Just come back, Wilson…” House said, as he reached into the car and patted Wilson’s shoulder, his shirt damp with sweat.

Wilson turned to House again.

“Are you sure?”

House nodded. “I’m sure” House said. “You really think I’d let you go home when you’re this sick?”

Wilson shook his head, and smiled a tiny smile, then he slowly got out of the car, and let House lead the way back inside hospital.

Neither of them noticed Cuddy staring at them as they went by.
