how did flies, above all other flying insects, get to be named flies??

there is a fly flying flying flying around my head.

I used to work with a southern woman at a bakery who made a mean shoe-fly-pie.
I have no pie.. but i wish the fly would shoe nonetheless.

who decided that the orange got to monopolize an entire color? it's just one fruit. what about everything else in the world that's orange?
