Ah, memories of the Peak District (I used to go there a lot). Is Poole's Cavern the one with the rope-making or am I thinking of somewhere else?

You're thinking of Speedwell I believe. It has boats too.

Ah, I know the boats at Speedwell. But that's not the one I was thinking of. I remembered after writing the comment that the one on my mind is Peak Cavern which, like Speedwell, is in Castleton. There's also The Blue John Cavern there if I remember correctly. Nice little village, went hiking and stayed there a few times.
