And the sad thing is, he'll probably do just fine in academia only reading stuff by white dudes.

So true. Another gem of his is that if people ask us about what we studied during our degrees he'll be "taken more seriously" becuase he did Shakespeare and Modernism, whilst I "faffed around" reading books by women. It... puts a strain on our friendship.
