July & August, I barely knew ya.

Aug 23, 2005 15:47

I am slowly recovering from 20 solid days of  house guests in July.  We started with both my parents for a few days, then it was just my Mom for a week or so, then Rob's 6-year old son, Evan, came for a 2-week visit and somewhere in there my Mom and I took a weekend trip to Seattle so she could catch a plane back home.  I think we had good times ( Read more... )

It's been so long I thought maybe Rob had locked you in a closet or something. I remember going to Stanley Park when I was just a little whippersnapper and staying at my Grandma's house. She lived in this HUGE three story Victorian house only a couple of blocks from the main library. My Great-uncle Frank lived in a fancy place on a hill above the harbour. We used to go there and watch the ships at night...very pretty. ;)

I know...I have really become slack about updating, I have no idea why. Every time we do something cool or I take interesting pictures I think about updating, but I never get around to it. Procrastination is my life! :)

I think you told me about your Grandma's house once before if I remember correctly...it is such a pretty area down there, but the prices are just outrageous! Houses are a rare thing anywhere near downtown, so they charge millions. If we ever win the lottery, I'd consider something down there...or out on the Sunshine Coast for a little seclusion (we'd have to win enough for a helicopter to get us back and forth).

I'm not even sure if the house is still there. If it is I'm sure it's been remodeled into several apartments by now. The last trip I made to Vancouver was in 1964 and my Grandma died in 1967. My Mother was an only child so she inherited the house and soon sold it. When my Mom passed away several years ago my sisters and I discovered several Canadian bank accounts that were still active. I think they were left over from when my Mom sold the house! The exchange rate sucks tho. ;)

Yeah the exchange rate is only good when you are in Canada, but trust me they make up for it by taxing us to death. Free health care, my ass. ;)

Yeah Chuckanut! akbuch August 24 2005, 07:46:32 UTC
Having moved from the area at the first of the year I miss ol' Chuckanut.

There is a shellfish farm just off the road that we would get these beautiful Dungeness Crabs.

I think I mentioned to you before about heading up to Mt. Baker - you can drive up to a place called Artist's Point and then hike around fairly easily for a couple of miles. If you drove Chuckanut you had some good practice for that trip. Only difference is that as you travel up the sheer drops are not into the bay but over these unbelievable valley views.

My wife just happens to be in Seattle for a work related trip this week and she just called me to tell me how she is doing her morning running thru Pike Place Market as the vendors are setting up. I hope you stopped at the very first Starbuck's....

Cheers!

Hey there!

Chuckanut was really an interesting experience, it is apparently really big with the motorcyclists. I think it's probably easier for them to navigate the narrow roads. I did enjoy all the little scenic areas to park and there are supposedly a few places to enjoy a good meal along the way. I do have plans to go back one day for sure.

I remember you telling me about the Mt. Baker drive before. I do not think my little 4 cylinder car would make it up to Artist's point, I can barely climb a normal hill. It's very sad. Maybe one day we could take Rob's car and go...but I get carsick whenever I am in his car (jerky stickshift), so I try to avoid it at all costs. ;)

We DID go to the first Starbucks and saw all of it's 20 offspring around the city. That little area was packed full of stuff to see and do, totally different from what I expected.

Hi there!

Sorry to bother you, but I noticed on your interests section that you have a mini black music note. Y'know like ♥ but in the form of a music note...could you possibly tell me how to do the music note? I think it's so cute!

U.S. Cell Phones anonymous August 27 2005, 18:38:24 UTC
Good to hear from you after so long. We're going to a village in Nova Scotia for a month. I was wondering if my cell phone will work there. Of course you don't know about villages in Nova Scotia, but I mean do U.S. cell phones work in Canada? Thanks in advance.

I know mine worked in Ottawa and Vancouver back when I used to visit, although you will pay crazy roaming charges unless Canada is included in your calling plan.
