Wow, I check your journal for the first time and find this. That's gold-plated awesomeness!
It's really beautiful too. This style's better looking than the upright versions, I think.
Have you spun before? My aunt used to have one and let me try it, and I've been after a wheel for a while (hmm, alliteration) at least idly; I've yet to find one that I don't have to drive miles to collect though. Not that I need another craft thing, but a spinning wheel is such a great thing to have around the house.

I did some spinning when I was around 10 or so--I had a great hippie art teacher that taught me lots of interesting skills. I got a drop spindle earlier this fall and my parents bought me the wheel for Christmas.

You should be able to order a wheel online and have it delivered, but they can be quite spendy!

Ah, great.
I'm looking at the cheap old ones on eBay mainly, as I'm not averse to a bit of DIY restoration if it saves some initial cost.

The thing about older wheels is that it can take a good chunk of time and money to get them fixed. If you spend $150 on a wheel and then spend $200 getting it working, you'd have been better off just spending $350 on a newer wheel. If you just want one for decoration then they don't need to work and can be had fairly cheaply.
