A weird need for honesty. [locked to naughty_tess]

Set a few days after this.

It was extremely tempting to just try and continue his life normally, and to hide once again what his new job was going to be, but as hard as he tried he simply couldn't. A part of him argued that no one needed to know anything, that they'd be better off not knowing, but the other part was just too tired at the moment of secrets and of hiding. It was probably just another momentary honest streak, but for the past few days that was really all he could think about. The people who'd be affected the most by how close he was to them had a right to know.

The first person he was going to tell was someone who he kind of wished could be the last to know, simply because she was already going through so much as it was. And, quite honestly, he was a little afraid of what her reaction was going to be. He knew, though, that if he kept waiting and putting it off he was going to end up backing out, and that'd probably be worse in the long run.

As he called Tess on her cell phone, he forced himself to stay seated just so he wouldn't start pacing. Even if he didn't want to tell her over the phone he had no idea where he should go to see her, so he was dressed and ready to go meet her wherever. The drive from Jersey City to New York wasn't a long one, and all he'd have to do would be call a cab. Heh, it was a good enough reason for him to finally leave the house for at least a couple of hours.
