How do you deal with difficult people?

During the spring semester, I was paid to work on an internet data collection project.  For this project, a political research group headed by 3 univ. professors enlisted 2 grad students (1 being me), as well as a handful of undergrads currently enrolled in Independent Study.  The other grad student had actually been working on this project prior ( Read more... )

Were you copying your professors on the emails you were sending Gary? If you weren't, now might be the time to forward them copies and detail the issues involved.

I agree with this. Maybe in the future if you're ever in the same situation, you should CC the professors in all e-mails as a matter of course. Not only would that make them aware of what was going on, but your colleague would know that they were aware of it also.

Dude just let them know what was happening. The worst thing they can do is say "Why didn't you come to us with this issue sooner?" Also once you're out of school, what your professors thought of you doesn't really matter. So I wouldn't worry about damage to your reputation. Plus their bad impressions(should they have any), since they are false, are just going to be that much more fun to discredit when you prove yourself to others.

I think this situation is probably one you might just want to let go, unless you want to work with any of the professors in the future, in which case copying them on the email exchanges you've had with Gary and simply explaining what went on in the simplest terms possible would most likely be the best strategy ( ... )
