Gift

You tell me that silence
is nearer to peace than poems
but if for my gift
I brought you silence
(for I know silence)
you would say
This is not silence
this is another poem
and you would hand it back to me

- Leonard Cohen

Cohen is a true poet: the irony so softly and beautifully wrought there. As they say,'The rest is silence...'
And Jagjit Singh - am listening to him sing now, thanks:)

Good morning. And yes, Cohen is beauty in flesh and blood.

Morning Wanderer... ( though it's lunch time where I am) hotchocolate29 April 24 2006, 13:27:08 UTC
Are you not at work?! I love Cohen's 'Lady Midnight, 'Suzanne' etc etc etc. We tried to sing his songs to a horse in Ireland who wasn't too impressed:) It's actualy quite difficult to sing like him!!!
What's the Jagjit Singh album in memory of their son? I used to listen to it all the time at school. Have forgetten the name:( Cheers:)

Yup, I am (now). My cohen favourites are too many. Will send some over someday. Though I have JS's whole collection, I don't know which one was in the memory of his son. Let me know if you find out.

:) Cohen is absolutely brilliant...I love the subtle irony, the biting wit, the apparent nonchalance, the unexpected twists- actually just about everything- in his poems/songs…
Have you read ‘For E.J.P.’…? If not… here it is:

Oh wow, I owe you one.

Something forgets us perfectly

Loved the way it began and ended. One of the most complete pieces of poetry.
