so i should be reading right now but i was very interested in something that i am reading in Life of Pi.  i always got mad when someone said, " I AM HALF AND HALF"  because i always thought it was stupid to claim that you are half christian and half jewish just because you have a parent of each religion.  and most people i know who say that, only ( Read more... )

seems like an issue regarding the individual teachings of the religions in relation to the others, preaching that they are vastly different from the others, and they do not worship the same god. the religious leaders have been influenced by their superiors and society into thinking that their religions cannot coexist and combine to create greater harmony, and a deeper connection to god.

that part of the book really bothered me. i don't believe that the religions he chose to worship fit together. i don't believe that everything Pi thought about God was true. so in a sense, i don't agree with Pi when he combines the three religions. but i was appalled at the 'religious leaders' reactions to him studying all three religions. how they glared at him and looked down on him, making him uncomfortable in places of worship. in places of WORSHIP! if they are so concerned with Pi's conglomerations of religion that they are being rude and unkind to him, maybe they should focus on themselves, and how they should be sharing God's love. hypocrite much? was the first thing i thought when i read this. it was SO frustrating. because that is one of my main pet peeves. everyone is a child of God, and treating people badly for their religious views is horrible. i was SO ANGRY at the leaders during this part of the book, in case you couldn't tell by now...

OH and about the half and half thing... that's always bothered me too. like what do YOU believe? you are not your parents, and you don't need to classify thoughts and opinions based on theirs.

All religions divinly inspired teach the same basic things. If we look to their teachings we see that their are HUGE parallels in all of them. I mean, with respect when I say all it ignores witchcraft and the others of the sort. But heres just a small list of the ones i'm including:
Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, Judaism, the Baha'i Faith, Taoism, Sikhism, etc etc. theirs a million. but i challenge you to look to these religions and begin to say that they truly do not all teach the same big picture.
