Just curious, but how many frames do you use for animated ones? I'm learning how to make some myself and find it so hard to compress files to make a decent animated one. :)

Depends on the size of the file it turns into, to be honest... and what animation program you're using. I use Animation Shop 3 because I find it to be the easiest and have professional-like results/quality.

The smaller the animated portion, the more frames you can squeeze in. I usually make it the way I want it to be (I try to keep it under 7 frames for an animation that is 100x100, and keep it under 20 frames for ones where the animated area is smaller) and then save it to see how big it is and then remove frames if needed in the event that it's 40kb or larger. From my experiences with icons, 40kb is kinda a joke with LJ claiming it as the file limit for userpics because I've found they have to be 39.9kb or less to work.

I hope that all makes sense. There are tons of various animation tutorials online using various programs. This site is probably one of the best for icon tutorials, although I've never used it myself. I use Corel Paint Shop Pro Photo XI and Animation Shop 3 for all my graphics because, in my opinion, they're just as ( ... )

I've actually got the same programs you use (I'm still in need of lots of practise! ;D)

Thanks for the other site though! I just need to make when I get some since most of my online time is done during work! *is such a slacker* ;D

Oh! You totally win. First of all, your icon, with the darkness, is freaking amazing. Second, your mood theme, is similarly amazing. But, the thing that really makes me want to pimp you out to my friends? That little picture up by your name, the one of Mr. Paul Blackthorne as one Harry Blackstone Copperfield Dresden. Win. You. All sorts of win.

And now it's Cpt. Jack Sparrow. The cool points just keep rolling in for you.

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You've totally made my day!!!

I wanted to throw in a bunch of others (like Fight Club, Bram Stoker's Dracula - although Vlad was on the Halloween layout, etc.), but didn't want to over-do it. LOL

Oh, yeah, I love Dresden. I never got over that show being canceled. Talk about network psychos that wouldn't know a genius idea if it fell out of the sky and plowed their asses into the ground. Firefly too. Oh, there are a handful of those tragedies to be sure. Harry Dresend rocks my world. Not as much as Snape, but still!!!!

I so <3 you for that comment!!! *massive hugs*

Have you any buttons to pimp with? Cause I'd put it up on my user info page. That would be cool.
