Parents and the Media SUCK

Nov 30, 2005 05:13

So, up late this morning, unable to sleep (as per usual these days) and I'm watching the early morning news, namely ABC America's "Good Morning America". Anyways, they present a piece on violence in videogames, This is such an infuriating subject, but I fell the need to rant about it.

Here we go to rant-land )

Perhaps you should edit out the swearing and send that in the next time you see an Australian article about it. You make a ver valid Ainan. Although unfortunatly not all sales associates follow those rules. Generally the ones still living at home with mummy who doesn't matter if they lose their job or really care about moralities either....just like the guy who sold us all smokes when we are under 18.

I don't know why parents get so shitty about it anyway.
They're just delaying the inevitable.
Kid is going to grow up and see this stuff one day.
I would rather have my child desensitised to the stuff at a young age so that they don't get mentally scarred when trying to deal with it when they're older....Or maybe I'm just a sicko.

you always have been a sicko though...haven't you? LOL

But your right, I know my daughter will see it all one day, but I want to be there to explain what is happening and why (if there ever really is a reason) But we certainly can't protect our children 24/7 from such vulgarities. We can only be there to pick up the pieces when they blame us for not explaining it.

I agree there, with the desensitising thing.

I'd prefer to have them exposed to it young, at suitable
times and levels, so that they would be able to associate
it with being a part of everyday life, and nothing that
they can fixate themselves on when they're hormonal teens
and the like.

I don't think I could deal with my kids growing up with
all this shit consuming all their attention. It's
bad enough, in my opinion, that smoking, drinking, drugs and
sex is still such a taboo thing in society that kids
growing up feel compelled to rebel and take part in it
all, just to do something bad.

But I've always been a pussy in that respect, and can't
see others' points of view as I've never been there myself.
