When I saw trans!N in the characters tab I thought it was going to be another ridiculous fetish thing, but she ended up impossibly cute. And when the birth vs. choice part came up, it felt appropriate. N was trying to escape Ghetsis' influence, so of course he would try to do something to make himself feel more in control of himself. I guess the transsexuality was meant to be a ritual of sort to a symbolic escape and self-control.
N's transness is... complicated. I'm not comfortable saying "oh it's a way to escape Ghetsis" entirely just because, well, someone being abused and then trans doesn't mean that they're trans because they were abused. At the same time, someone's life experiences are what shape them into who they are, and I'm nervous about saying people are necessarily born in the wrong body, which is a narrative I know works for some people but echoes really hollow for other people (including me). I figure N's transness is part about control and part about being raised without normal social gender roles and part just she's happier as a woman. But I don't see it as a fetish thing --- while more trans characters in fiction (fan and otherwise) are awesome and trans folks can be hot like anyone else, making N hot because she's trans would really creep me out.
...okay so I have kinda strong opinions about this :) Glad you like Cynthia!
