the deal 06.
Akame, (Ryoda)
R; Romance, Humor, Angst, Friendship
Jin is a singer and he desperately needs a dancer for his upcoming show. Kame is a dancer and he has some trouble with bad guys. The two meet and hate each other but they have no other choice so they make a deal.

If you lie to me once again, I will never forgive you

Jin was numb. His body was numb, his mind, too. He wanted to laugh, he wanted to cry, or simply just yell as loud as he could to vent the frustration he felt. But he didn’t do any of those. He was just sitting on the extremely uncomfortable and terribly ugly white plastic chair, with his eyes fixed on the pale but beautiful face and the chest that has been rising and falling in a steady rhythm. It was dead silence. If he had any thoughts in his head it would have been interrupted only by the constant beeping sound of the heart monitor.

“Overdose” the doctor said as it wouldn’t have been obvious. ”It was close. He’s lucky.” he added, as if it wouldn’t have been more obvious. Then he said something which wasn’t obvious at all. “He’s not through with the worst yet. We don’t know if his body or brain has any other serious side effects. We’ll have to wait for him to regain consciousness.”

Those words made Jin feel the urge to grab the doctor’s collar and shake the hell out of him for saying such things. Why couldn’t he just say that Kame was okay? Full stop. Nothing more, nothing less.

He somehow felt the urge to laugh out loud. The whole situation was just absurd. Like a nightmare. He wanted to return to his ordinary life (if we can say that), worrying about his concert, composing new songs, writing lyrics, reading scripts, flirting with fangirls and drinking himself under the table every other day. And he was definitely not wanting  to deal with life and death issues.

He stood up and stretched his body to stimulate his blood circulation then he walked over the bed and sat down on the edge. He didn’t like being this close to Kame because every time he did his heart clenched and his throat went dry. Being distant from him due to uncomfortability was not an opinion for Jin,either, since he couldn’t help himself looking at the boy, checking on him. He could just sit down on the edge of the bed every now and then. Every ten minutes, to be exact.

Jin raised his hand and touched the boy’s silky hair then brushed his brown locks out of his face. It was an action he repeated every time he sat down on the bed. But then he couldn’t pull his hand back as usual. He lowered it and stroked his fingers gently over the younger man’s face. His fingertips slowly trailed along the lines and fine curves starting from the forehead down to the slightly crooked nose and the soft pink lips until they arrived at the boy’s chin. He stopped there for a moment, hesitating a bit then followed the line of the smooth neck brushing over the soft skin and finally touching the boy’s collarbones.

He pulled his hand back and stared at the slender figure who seemed so vulnerable and much more like a child than ever. Jin felt his mind being flooded with anger again. It wasn’t the same kind of feeling when he fought with Kame over ridiculous and totally meaningless, stupid things. Because it all seemed to be so meaningless to him now. It was frustration  from the feeling of being helpless. The worst.

Jin sighed and leaned close to the boy. He stroked through his brown locks once again and rested his hands on the cheeks, cupping his face gently. “Come back, Kame. Wake up, please.” he whispered into the younger man’s ears. His voice was weak and he hated it. Then he closed his eyes and placed a soft kiss on the boy’s temple.

He didn’t know if he was worried. He wasn’t thinking about it. He just wanted Kame to wake up finally. He wanted the boy to jump up from that fucking bed and grin widely and start to mock him that he fell for his trick again. He wanted to hear his loud, annoying voice and see that childish pout on his lips. ‘Shit!’ He wanted Kame to be alive.

“Go home, go and sleep a few hours at least.” Yamapi said and snatched the coffee mug away from Jin. The singer frowned and let out a groan in disagreement but didn’t move.

“I don’t wanna go home.” he said quietly.

It was true. The hours passed unbearably slowly here but he was sure that at home he would feel that time had stopped.

Yamapi patted the singer on the shoulder. “Jin, we’re staying here. Go home and take a shower. Then if you can’t sleep, come back, but now go home… please.”

Jin sighed and buried his face in his palms. He felt tiredness crawling up in his body, from his legs up to the tip of his head. It was not a bad idea, maybe. He should take a warm shower to wash the numbness away.

“I’m going home, then. I’ll get changed then I’m coming come back again.” he agreed finally then looked at his friend. “Take care of him, Pi.”

Yamapi let out a small smile and nodded. “Don’t worry, I will.” he assured the singer.

Jin got up and shot a last glance at Kame who was lying motionless among the white sheets. Then walked to the door and opened it. “Pi… I want him to get better.” he murmured quietly.

Yamapi was more than surprised by the confession that came so direct from the other man’s mouth. “He’s gonna be fine.”

Jin gave him a sad smile than left. Yamapi slowly closed the door behind him then turned to look at the unconscious boy. “Kamenashi, you really messed up this time.” he said shaking his head then pulled out his cell phone from his pocket and started to look for a number among his contacts. When he found it, he hesitated for a second, eyes fixed on the name on the screen. Nakamaru Yuichi. He pushed the button and placed the phone to his ear.

“Nakamaru? It’s me” he said when the other picked up. “We need to talk…. Ok, at the usual place… I’ll take Ryo with me... Bye.”

Yamapi hung up and put the phone back into his pocket. He didn’t know that someone was standing on the other side of the door, hands resting on the doorknob, legs trembling slightly as he was overhearing the conversation. The man stepped away from the door and pulled his hand back then turned on his heels and walked to the elevator.

ӿӿӿӿӿӿӿӿӿӿӿ

Kame didn’t really know what to think when the strange noises reached his ears. The beeping sound was sharp and annoying like listening to a huge clock that counts the seconds restlessly, for minutes, for hours, for an eternity. And among the harsh sounds footsteps and murmurs were heard, doors opening and closing, chairs squeaking, voices whispering. All of them were so clear and close, yet muffled and distant. Like when the mind awakens slowly, not yet able to tell the difference between dream and reality.

Kame forced to open his eyes and what he saw scared the hell out of him. It was unfamiliar. He didn’t know that white ceiling, he didn’t know that smell. “Where am I?”

He wanted to lift his hands but they were too heavy. He tried to take a deep breath but the air he drew in, stabbed his chest painfully. He gathered all his strength and turned his head to the side. Through his blurred vision he glimpsed a familiar figure sitting on a chair next to him. He opened his mouth. “Yamapi?” he whispered in a hoarse voice.

The man looked up and his eyes widened. Then he jumped up from the chair and came closer. He quickly pushed the button beside the bed then turned to the boy. “Kame… don’t worry, the doctor is coming. Don’t speak, don’t move.”

Kame shook his head weakly. ‘Don’t speak? Don’t move? Don’t worry? What are you talking about? What happened? Where am I?’ his thoughts were screaming in his head and he felt that panic started to blur his senses. He tried to sit up and shook his head more vehemently.

“Kame… Kame, don’t move, please.”

But he ignored the man’s words and pushed himself up to take a look at his surroundings. ‘What the hell is this place? I don’t know it!!! And why am I feeling like shit?’ He was feeling very bad, indeed. His head was dizzy, his heart was beating rapidly and he felt his breathing speeding up, sending painful stabs into his lungs. He clenched his shirt on his chest and his face twisted in pain. He felt a touch on his arm.

“Kame, please, calm down.” Yamapi grabbed the boy’s shoulders.

That was the moment when the doctor finally entered the room. He immediately turned back to the nurse who had been following him and said something to her. The young woman quickly walked to the bed. Kame didn’t hear her, didn’t see her, his senses were clouded by pain and fear. But a few moments later he felt the pain ease a little and his limbs became heavy. His eyelids slowly closed down and he fell into a deep slumber.

ӿӿӿӿӿӿӿӿӿӿӿ

Jin rubbed his forehead wearily. He cursed himself for not being close to Kame when he woke up. He didn’t know why but he was quite sure that he could calm the boy down a little and that stupid doctor wouldn’t have had to drug him again to put him to sleep.

He paid for his coffee and headed back to Kame’s room. The corridor was silent, the rooms were silent, and the entire building was so silent that Jin wondered if there was anyone being alive in here.

He arrived back a few hours ago and sent Ueda and Koki home. Ryo also showed up for a quick visit then left with Yamapi. Jin didn’t mind. He preferred being alone with Kame and watching him for hours in his sleep.

He walked back to the room and closed the door. He was about to sit down on his usual chair when he looked at the boy and stopped in his tracks. His heart skipped a beat and he was just standing there frozen, staring at the younger man.

“Kame…”

Kame was sitting on the bed with a miserable smile on his lips and dark circles under his eyes. He was pale and apparently dead tired. But he was alive.

Jin let out a breath he had been holding back for seconds then placed his mug on the table and took a step forward.

“I’m going to get a doctor for you.”

“No!! Please, give me a minute.” came the hoarse whisper from Kame and Jin wanted to cry out happily that he was able to hear the boy’s voice again. He walked to the bed and hesitantly sat back on the edge as he did so many times while he was waiting desperately for the boy to wake up. And there he was. Kame, in one piece and smiling. Jin felt his vision getting blurred as tears gathered in his eyes by the urge to finally let his frustration out but he didn’t want to be weak. Not this time when he was supposed to be happy. And he was.

So he blinked a few times and cleared his throat.

“How are you feeling?” he asked the boy whose eyes never left the singer’s every move since he entered the room.

“I’m fine, I guess.” Kame whispered. It was a lie, of course, but he was feeling much better than the first time he woke up. He freaked out at first when he came to his senses, especially when he realized that he was alone but then he glimpsed the jacket that was hanging lazily on the back of the white plastic chair and he suddenly calmed down. It was Jin’s, he recognized it.

Jin sighed heavily and felt relieved. “Do you remember what happened?”

Kames tore his gaze away from the man, hesitated for a moment then shook his head.

“You were drugged. Don’t you remember? Then you came to my place and…”

“I… I really don’t remember.” Kame cut him off immediately. Then he added “Did… I do something… uhm… embarrassing?”

Jin bit his lips and blushed. Kame’s eyes widened seeing his reaction. “WH... what? Did I do something? Tell me…”

Jin shook his head and laughed nervously. “Never mind. It’s nothing. We can talk about it later. Now I go and get a doctor.” he stood up and turned to open the door.

“Wait, wait. What happened? Tell me!”

Jin smiled at him over his shoulders. “I wanna keep it to myself so I can tease you when I will really need to.” he said and left the room.

Kame froze and felt his cheeks heating up. “Oh no… not again!!!”

ӿӿӿӿӿӿӿӿӿӿӿ

Two days later Kame was waiting for the last check-up and was more than happy to finally be able to leave the hospital. The doctor said that he was fine. Physically, at least.

In the waiting room four men were sitting and talking quietly.

“I think Kame shouldn’t go home now. It would be better if one of us took him in a place where he cannot be found.” Yamapi said. The others nodded.

Ueda scratched his head thoughtfully. “My place is a mess right now. I moved in last week. I don’t even have a bed.”

Jin sighed and lifted his gaze at Yamapi. The man stared back at him. “Don’t look at me like that. I’m the one who knows him the least. I don’t think that it would be a good idea.”

Jin turned his gaze to Ryo. The man opened his mouth but his eyes met Yamapi’s who signed him with his hands and sent him a meaningful look. “I’m sorry but… I can’t. I... I… I’m going on a trip tomorrow, so Kame would be alone. I don’t want that.”

Jin sighed once again then jumped up from his chair. “Ok, I think I have no other choice. I take him with me.” he exclaimed and tried very hard not to sound too excited.

Yamapi and Ryo shared a glance and chuckled. The singer turned to them. “What the hell are you so happy about? Are you mocking me?” he asked pretending to be mad but then he couldn’t hold back a smile and started giggling.

Only Ueda was sitting deep in thought but no one paid attention to him.

ӿӿӿӿӿӿӿӿӿӿӿ

“How long do I have to stay here?” Kame whined as he entered the huge house. Not that he was complaining, because he didn’t want to be alone and he kind of get used to the older man’s presence during these days he had spent in the hospital. But he was sure that Jin will watch his every move from now on. And this would make things more complicated, because he had to go on with his job and forget what happened to him. It wasn’t the first time, anyway. But it was quite easy to predict Jin’s reaction if he realizes that Kame was not willing to stay away from trouble.

“I don’t know… until you get better.” the singer replied.

“But I’m fine, Jin.” the boy pouted.

The man smiled. ‘Jin.’ During these days the boy kept calling him by his given name but every time he heard that it put a smile on his face and made his stomach whirl.

“For a couple of days then, or a week, we’ll see.” ‘Or a little more, I wouldn’t mind.’

“I see.” Kame said deep in thoughts.

“I get you something to eat.”

“I’m not hungry. I think I’m going to sleep now.” the boy said.

Jin examined his face for a few seconds. He saw that Kame was tired; the bags under his eyes didn’t fade away. He was leaning on the table with one arm as if he was trying to hold himself and not to collapse onto the marble floor.

“Ok, I put your bag in the room next to mine, if you’re okay with it.”

Kame nodded and followed Jin upstairs. The singer put his bag on the bed and turned to him.

“If you need anything…”

Kame cut him off with a smile and nodded. “I just wanna sleep now.”

Jin smiled back. “Ok, good night then.” he said gently and headed to the door.

“Good night.”

As he stayed alone, Kame immediately started to look for a painkiller. His headache was unbearable but he didn’t want to complain to Jin. As he swallowed the bitter pill, he frowned then let out a relieved sigh. Then he pulled out his cell phone and switched it on. The phone started to vibrate at that very moment.

“God, they don’t let me even die in peace.” he murmured then flipped the phone open.

“Hello.”

Kame frowned as he was listening to the man yelling on the other end of the line. Then he hung up and sighed. He picked up his jacket and slowly opened the door. The corridor was silent. He tiptoed to the stairs and sneaked down to the front door. He opened it and waited. He didn’t hear anything. ‘It was easy.’

“Where do you think you’re going, Kame?” a voice came from the dark. The boy didn’t have to turn around to know that Jin was really pissed off.

“I’m going to take a walk.” the boy said nervously.

“Don’t lie to me.” Jin stepped closer and slammed the door shut making Kame jump in fear. The singer took one more step forward. He was so close that the boy felt his fragrance filling his nostrils and saw his eyes glistening dangerously in the dark.

“I… I’m not….” he started but he was cut off by the man.

“Don’t lie to me!!!” Jin raised his voice and looked into Kame’s eyes with a pained expression. “Tell me what’s going on.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about…”

“Ok, then.” Jin said and grabbed the boy’s arms firmly. He pulled the younger man with him and dragged him upstairs.

“Jin… Jin, let me go… let me go… What are you doing? Jin! JIN!!!” Kame shouted as he was trying desperately to get free from the man’s painfully strong grip. “It hurts, Jin! Let me go!”

But the singer ignored him. He opened the door of Kame’s room vehemently and shoved the boy inside.

“Now, you’re staying here until you change your mind and decide to tell me what the hell is going on with you.” he said furiously then lowered his voice. “And if you lie to me once again, I will never forgive you.”

He put his hand on the doorknob and before he slammed the door shut, he added. “Don’t lie to me anymore.”

The door closed in front of Kame’s eyes and the boy just stared at it. Then he snapped out of his daze and ran to the door. He tried to open it but the man held it firmly from the other side.

“Jin, open the door! Open it, please! Let me out. I won’t lie to you, ok? Just let me out of here!” then he heard the turn of the key and his eyes widened. “NOOOOO!!! Please, let me go!! Jin! JIIIIIN!!!!”

After turning the key, the older man leaned on the door with his back. He closed his eyes and breathed heavily. There was a silence on the other side then Kame started to kick the door with his full strength.

“LET ME GO!!!!! OPEN THE DOOR!!! DO YOU HEAR ME????? OPEN THAT FUCKING DOOR, AKANISHI! YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND!”

The boy continued kicking the door and yelling angrily. “OPEN IT!!! YOU DON’T UNDERSTAND!!! YOU HAVE TO LET ME GO!!! FUCK YOU, AKANISHI!! I HATE YOU!! DO YOU HEAR ME? I HATE YOU!!! I hate you. I hate you…” the boy’s voice slowly lowered until only muffled murmurs were heard. “I hate you…”

Jin covered his ears with his hands and slowly slid down along the door. Then he buried his head into his palms. “I’m sorry.” he whispered quietly.
