I so wish you could get this published as an official sequel to The Eagle. It is just good beyond my ability to convey. Love it.

I love the social awkwardness of your Saturnalia! And Esca being uncompromisingly unhelpful and not allowing Marcus to get away with the whole 'friends' thing.

Thank you so much! Yes, Saturnalia has always struck me as being rather odd - though that comes from a modern perspective, of course. I've often wondered how much of a happy, jolly time it really was... And yes, Esca is NOT about to allow Marcus to forget that they are not on an equal footing. But he is very reluctantly, very warily, and very slightly starting to warm to him, I think.
