HELP ME, MARCUS AURELIUS. YOU'RE MY ONLY HOPE.

The Fall of the Roman Empire is on BBC2 RIGHT NOW. Thank god there is a shit-ton of (really fabulously bad) scenery, because between Alec Guiness, Sophia Loren, Christopher Plummer and Jaaaaaaames Maaaaason (♥), THEY ARE ALL GNAWING ON IT LIKE IT IS SOME SORT OF DELICIOUS CAKE AND THEY CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF IT.

I am so disappointed that this is not available on Netflix streaming.

Oh no, really, don't be disappointed! It is pretty much the epitome of stodgy swords-and-sandals 'epic' film-making.

Well, unless, like me, you want to watch it just for the lulz, because it is GREAT for that :D The terrible music alone was worth it. At one point I think I even identified a xylophone plunking away in the background. A XYLOPHONE. HOW VERY ROMAN.

Dude, I watched the first season of Torchwood and enjoyed it. I have a deep and abiding love for all kinds of bad film. :D

OH GOOD. In that case, you will love it! I didn't want to think I was somehow deluding you into believing this was some kind of monumental cinematic masterpiece XD Mind you, it is, but for all the wrong reasons.

I also have a weakness for bad films (I can see my well-loved DVD of 'Hudson Hawk' from where I'm sitting *g*) and I LOVED the first season of Torchwood - it was completely fucking batshit insane in the best possible way :D

Ha ha, well, like I said to regicidaldwarf, it is really NOT a good film, but if you want to piss yourself laughing at its awfulness, it certainly delivers on that. At one point Sophia Loren actually did the dramatic back-of-hand to forehead and flouncing out of shot (and there may even have been some wailing), and it was all super srz bzns - there was not even the slightest trace of irony. IT WAS AMAZING. AND BY 'AMAZING' I MEAN IT WAS MELODRAMA-FLAVOURED TOPPED WITH MASSIVE AMOUNTS OF HAM.

James Mason is God - per Eddie Izzard, at least. Love his God played by James Mason stuff.

JEEZY CREEZY! ♥ I ADORE Eddie Izzard - such a lovely man :D

Ha ha, I have harboured something of a crush on James Mason ever since I watched 'Journey To The Centre Of The Earth' when I was about eight *g*
