I was glued to the screen these past two weeks. I don't know what it is about the Olympics that just draws me in, but I somehow get so invested in them. And yet, I could care less about sports most of the time (that didn't used to be the case; as a teenager, I was very much into hockey). I found that Wikipedia explains it best: "The team with the stone closest to the button is awarded one point for each of its own stones lying closer to the button than the opponent's closest stone."

So basically, if there's one yellow in the centre and it's surrounded by 4 reds, the yellow will get one point. But if there's about 3 yellows near the centre and the nearest red is a metre away, the yellows will be award 3 points. Hehe, it helps to see it visually, but I hope you kind of understand what I'm saying. :)

I felt the same way about the natives' representation in the opening ceremony. It's like they only get recognition for events of the sort where there is an interest in Canada's culture/history, and then they're sent back to their reserves. I will read garconniere's post about it now, it seems really interesting.

Incidently, it's the first year that I've watched so much Olympics, and I really enjoyed it. I've always liked figure skating, but most sports were all fun to watch.
