Background: Odette Willow Avery was born in New Orleans in June of 1987. Her family, an average family with average wealth, had always done whatever they could to provide for their children. Her older brother, Donovan, was a musical genius, taking his small guitar at the age of ten and writing full albums by the time he was eleven. Though, unlike his little sister, Donovan never went anywhere with his talent. Like so many others from their home town, he got sucked into being a local forever.
Odette, on the other hand, had very different pans. From a very early age, her parents enrolled her dance classes to try and curb her hyperactivity and thirst for movement. She excelled in all classes; jazz, tap, ballroom, though her favorite and most skilled was in ballet. By the time she was seven she was already living up to her name by playing “Odette, the good Swan” in her class’s production of Swan Lake.
Middle school and high school were very heavily involved in dance for Odette. Her school’s dance team welcomed her with open arms, where she was exposed to all new styles of dancing including hip-hop and b-boy. Intermingling her expansive knowledge of classical dance with the new styles, Odette quickly made a name for herself in school as a phenomenal dancer. After graduation, she accepted an offer at the University of New Orleans and finished there with a major in Dance.
Life in New Orleans was too small for Odette, and shortly after graduation from UNO, she packed up her belongings and followed in the footsteps of so many girls before her: she moved out to L.A. to “make it big”. Things didn’t really go quite as she had planned, and two years later she still finds herself in a dead-end waiting job with no leads into the life of fame and fortune. It’s not really where she would have liked to be at this point in her life, but she doesn’t let it get her down and regularly attends auditions and call-outs to try and get her foot in the metaphorical door.
Because she is so convinced that her story is only just beginning, she signs every letter, email, etc with the words "To Be Continued". She has no idea how right she is.
