A scientist claims to have found a gene that makes people susceptible to religious beliefs.
That is great news! Since fundamentalism is a mental disease we can finally develop genetic therapies to treat those unfortunate enough to have caught it.

I get irritated when I read things like this. Because as much as I hate Christian fundamentalists, I hate even more obnoxious self-righteous liberals that assume everyone who disagrees with them is a Christian fundamentalist.

(Note that I'm not saying I hate liberals. Just the obnoxious self-righteous ones.)

I guess in the current context (liberals assuming that anybody who was against Kerry because of war, taxes, firearms, etc. is a religious zealot) I should have made the disclaimer that I am not a liberal, and that I preferred Bush to Kerry. The post about the gene is recent, but the post arguing that fundamentalism should be classified as a mental disease is much older than the current liberal diatribe, and he actually made a valid case. As far as I am concerned liberals are as nuts as the religious right, and I hope there is a gene for liberalism too so we can cure them as well.
