Weapon of Choice/Friends & Enemies
Starscream is currently out there with Ravage. Lying on the desk inside his quarters, there's a datapad with the following notes on it...
The one that's most suited to the task at hand, obviously.
I appreciate my null ray. There's a certain beauty in a weapon that's specifically made to be used against other Transformers. It's always a pleasure to watch them stop squirming.
My cluster bombs are not too shabby, either.
But it's not just physical armament that can be a weapon. Intelligence is a weapon. Knowledge is a weapon.
But my favorite weapon of all, the one that's most thrilling to wield… is a certain Walther P-38. It starts with how he transforms, doing that graceful back-flip with the effortless elegance you'd expect from a weightless being, not from a strongly-built Transformer. I pluck him from the air, and he fits my hand perfectly, my finger molding itself into the curve of his trigger, my other hand wrapped around his barrel from underneath to support it.
To have him, who never trusts me - and for a reason - literally give himself into my hands like this… the thrill of it is indescribable.
I squeeze his trigger, and he spews forth blazing destruction. For a moment, I feel invincible.
There is some truth to the saying, "Keep your friends close, and your enemies closer," certainly. Sometimes I suspect that is the very reason - apart from my superior skill, of course - why Megatron made me his second-in-command. Even though "enemy" is far too simple a word to describe what I am to him.
I certainly do have enemies. I'm a Decepticon, after all. We are at war with the Autobots; therefore, every Autobot is my enemy by default. Despite all their platitudes about being "the good guys", they want to kill us; so why shouldn't we want to kill them? Those who need mercy don't deserve it; and those who are in no need of being granted mercy - you better look out for them…
Now, as for personal enemies, or "rivals" might be the better word, the ones to whom the proverb about keeping enemies closer might apply… I suspect Blitzwing of being out to replace me as Air Commander first chance he gets; I'll certainly keep an optic on him. I'll also keep an optic on Dirge - I've long suspected that his mournful demeanor is merely a front for a personal agenda.
But the one I'm most suspicious of is Soundwave. He already is the 3IC; the only way he could advance further in the Decepticon ranks would be by displacing me, and he certainly knows it, as do I. He is ruthless, too - I know of enough Decepticons whose lives he's destroyed with his blackmailing… I don't even trust him as far as I can throw him. Of course, that's probably the very reason he's in the position he's in - Megatron wouldn't want his lieutenants to trust each other…
Needless to say that I have more enemies than friends. Especially considering that I don't have friends these days. It's lonely, it's lonely at the top… But would I want to be anywhere but the top? Certainly not.
