One word to describe this year?
“Can” and “Should”. I believe it’s the year when I think about “things we can do and should do”. It also includes the disaster in general.

After the disaster, again you must have felt a lot about the power of music. What crossed your mind when you sang?
Hmm, I wonder. Personally, I think delivering a song while thinking it has power, is extravagant. However, I am happy when the people who receive it say “it cheered me up”. That is said, I’ve never thought of something like “delivering the power of songs”.
Is it more like, what you can do in your daily lives?
Yes. Perhaps I’m keeping in mind to behave as usual.
Arashi is going to host “Kouhaku Uta Gassen” for the 2nd time, what do you remember from the first one?
Ohno-san kept on eating nattou in the dressing-room. It was the time when he was on a diet, I think.
Do you have any secret plans for this year?
Secret plan (laugh)?
There’s no secret plan. Instead, I believe that steadily doing what people are expecting from “Kouhaku” is what is good about Kouhaku. However, as the five of us are MC-ing, I’m hoping we could show our characteristic as a group, that is different from individual [MC].
Is it different with when you’re MC-ing alone? Is it more encouraging if other members are with you?
If I feel insecure doing it alone, I wouldn’t fit for the job (laugh). I don’t feel insecure, but when I’m alone, I have my own characteristic, for sure, and also, I have a certain position inside the group, so in those aspects, I think there will be differences.
The place you visited that left deepest impression?
That would be the disaster-afflicted area, as expected. I went there for a “News Zero” report. The first time I went there it was in April. Then I went there again half a year later. The rubbles were gone and I could see how the place was being cleared. The sight of how they were restoring their lives, albeit slowly, was the most impressive.
Taken from this year’s album title “Beautiful World”, tell us about the moment when the members looked most beautiful this year?
I think it’s Matsujun’s stage play “Ah, Kouya”. You see, we can only see a member standing on the stage from the audience seat when he does a stage play. We can’t see a member under the spotlight in any other occasions. I’m proud of him. Because he is one of us, I also know how much he worked on the rehearsals. I saw it closely, thinking “it must be hard”, so at the curtain-call, when I saw the audience clapped their hands, I was proud of him.
And, what about “Beautiful Scenery”?
In May, I went to Russia in private. I went to Moscow and St. Petersburg. St. Petersburg was beautiful. The city itself is a world heritage, and I also went to the Hermitage Museum. Next, I’m thinking to “strike” Morocco, Cambodia, and Cuba. I’m thinking to visit Europe after I’m older with my wife, so when I’m still young, I’ll search for the places I should visit.
What are your wishes for 2012?
2012…competing in the Olympic Games? (laugh). I’m sorry I’m sorry, let’s answer that seriously (laugh).
My wish…I think…it’s for people to smile. For Arashi and also the people who support us. I wish for people to smile longer, even only for one more second.
As for personal wish, I’m hoping to go on a family trip.
