The great land
We finally made it to Fort Wainwright, Alaska. Breathtaking scenery all the way! We took tons of pictures, but it just seemed futile. Looking at snow covered mountains as far as you can see. Azure rivers gushing white rapids on one side of the road while black bear cubs look for berries on the other...snapping shots with the camera was almost not ( Read more... ) -

I savored the simple action of pouring my morning coffee today with the realization that today is officially my last day of the Army's Flight School XXI program. I'm looking forward to what my unit has in store for me up in Alaska. I can't wait to be flying missions that are part of something bigger and more that just learning the helicopter. Confusion abounds as we get ready for the big move to the final frontier. We've been anxiously awaiting our "amended orders" to arrive in my military email so we could get started in the process of getting off Ft. Rucker. March Madness
Saw Saturn the other night! That was really cool. It's "edge on" right now, so the rings just look like a horizontal line throught the ball of the planet. Still really cool though. I've still not been able to see Andromeda. I'm going to try again tonight. If I don't catch it just after sunset, it'll be too late. It sets early this time of year. Oh ( Read more... ) -

Bedtime
Today was easy. As usual, I got up about an hour before she did. Made some coffee, played a little Xbox and ate some oatmeal. After she got up, we had some stuffed rice things together and headed out to Dothan. Oh yeah, right before we left, I took out the trash. There was a distinctly horrid trash smell in our hallway. I was trying to find the Andromeda galaxy last night when Jonny came home from work. She came out to talk to me and see what I was up to, and was probably outside for a total of about 5 minutes before she got bit on the forehead from a mosquito! One with everything.
My wife got me a Telescope for Christmas. It's a Celestron 114mm w/ an EQ mount if you know what all that is. It looks like this. I really love it. She got me a backyard astronomy guide too. So far I've seen the moon, Venus, the Great Orion Nebula and that's about it. We haven't had very good weather for observing lately. I'm looking forward to ( Read more... ) -
It is what it is.
I have a drug test at 1800 tomorrow. Joy. Other than that, all I have to do is PT at 0600, and study on my own during the day. I need to study though. I want to use these two weeks as an opportunity to get some good study time in, update my maps, and review my radio calls etc... There's never a shortage of things to work on ( Read more... ) -
