There’s so much sorrow here. So many people have died, so many people have been left behind while their family and friends move on without them. I wish I could have stopped this somehow… I vow to myself that I will.
The sun is setting, a red sky reflecting the destruction and death of the day. There are so many people who will never again wake to see the sun rise, and so many more who wish that they themselves would not.
I can’t do anything to help the living or the dead, except give the living relief in the form of knowing that their dead will never return to plague them as fiends. I feel so helpless that all I can do is send those who were killed today on to rest in the Farplane. The water is soft beneath my feet as I walk out, and my staff is heavy in my hands as I swing it above my head and begin the sending.
The only comfort I can find in the wreckage of the day is the sight of pyreflies rising up from the coffins and floating their way to the Farplane. It’s the only comfort anyone can find, knowing that the dead will never return to haunt them. And when you compare eternal absence with them still being alive, it’s a very small comfort. All I can do for them is this, and hope that no more will die and be unsent once I leave tomorrow.
