Day 1: So late to the party, but that's just fashionable, right?
NK and I kicked off our Advent tonight by watching "It's a Wonderful Life."
Now, I hadn't seen the film before. I know! I'm clearly wrong in the head (he definitely thought so) and NK was determined that it would be the first one we watched on the run up to Yule.
And, ok, I'm so VERY late to the party but, I LOVED IT!
The whole film is SO well done. The way it builds up your love of George and the sadness you feel at how much he has sacrificed to help everyone around him. And so we can IMAGINE what life would have been like for all these people if George hadn't done those things, but when he SEES it and all, well it's just so striking.
And, the thing is, I've known the basic plot in that osmosis way for, well, ever. And as soon as the £8,000 went missing (DAMN YOU POTTER!) I just KNEW that everyone was going to help him out. I knew it. But when everyone starts showing up at the end because "I just heard that George Bailey was in trouble" I started to cry. While also having this face -

I was clinging to NK (who was making the same face) and just...everyone HELPS him, you guys. He's spent his whole life helping everyone but himself and, when it's needed, they all come together and help him. I just...

And okay, here's the thing, I love my boy so much. We're in the middle and George is letting Harry go off and get the fab job rather than taking over the family business and I'm all "HE JUST DOES ANYTHING FOR HIS FAMILY AND ANYONE ♥"
NK pauses the dvd and says "Yes - what must it be like to know someone who constantly puts others first. Someone who doesn't know how great they make other people feel and will do anything and drop everything for their family." And then he looked at me all pointedly. ♥__♥ Whether I am actually like that or not, it's wonderful to know that it's how he thinks of me. :DDDDDDD
I've decided that we have to kick off our advent every year with this film. I may be late to the party, but dude? I'm going to have a kick-ass time now that I'm here.
