9-year-old Hikaru fell. His knee was grazed and was now bleeding. 9-year-old Airi blinked. She took out her first aid kit and dabbed alcohol dipped cotton buds into his grazed knee. He howled.
“Itai!”
Airi smirked. “Does it hurt?”
Hikaru turned. “No!”
“You’ve lost again, Hikaru-chan!”
“No! I`m going to win someday, I promise!”
“Well then! I can`t wait!”

Hikaru Yaotome dashed out of his house, hoping none of his fangirls would find him. The girl he dragged along with him yawned. He stopped and tugged her sleeve.
"Oi, Airi-chan! Wake uuup!" he grunted.
"I`m awake okaaay! Sheesh. And don`t drag me okay? I have two feet that are perfectly capable of walking themselves.."Airi said.
Hikaru clicked his tongue. "Come on, let's go to school, we have exams you know!" he clicked his tongue once more, and pulled the girl's hand. She blushed.
Noticing that she'd been walking slowly, Hikaru stopped and pulled her. Their lips met, and Airi blushed even harder. Hikaru stared at her.
"Agh. Stop fooling around!" he growled, despite the red color that was going up his cheeks. As he turned away, Airi smiled to herself.

"Dammit, Airi!" Hikaru cursed, crumpling the edges of his English exam results in his hand. Airi smirked. "This is unfair! We both know you're better at this."
"Hey, it's not my fault you lost. You shouldn`t be too confident of yourself,"Airi said. She looked down at her exam results which had no mistakes, as to Hikaru's bloody exam paper.
The teacher had left and they were waiting for the next subject they were about to take, and the test results they were about to face. Hikaru had his fingers crossed on a higher grade than Airi's at mathematics.
And he was right.
Airi's jaw dropped at her paper which had 78 correct answers out of the hundred-five-item exam and glanced at Hikaru's paper which had 87. She squirmed, while Hikaru smiled, triumphant and boasted off his score.
"Ha! Beat that, Airi!" he mocked. Airi only rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, yeah. We'll see who wins in Science...”
Hikaru gulped.
Uchida-sensei arrived and handed out the exam sheets. Hikaru glared at Airi before he started writing on his exam sheet and rambled indistinct words. Airi smirked before she started writing on hers.
An hour later, and time was up! Airi crossed her fingers, in a hope that she can beat Hikaru.
“Okay, class, I`ll hand in your results later this afternoon. Goodbye,” Uchida sensei said as he collected the papers.
The two glared at each other during break time.
“I`m gonna win this time, Airi!”Hikaru said.
“I`d like to see you try,”Airi shot back.
“Iya. Break it up, you guys. Sheesh,”Kei said as he took a bite of his sandwich, standing between them. “You’re always fighting..”
“Baka! Of course we are! I will never lose that midget!”Hikaru jeered.
“Who’re you calling a midget, motormouth?!”Airi snapped.
“Shortypants!”
“Beanstalk!”
“GUUUUYS! Cut it out yo! Geez, I`m gonna go look for a more peaceful lunch table..” Kei complained.
He moved away from the lunch table which was being watched by a swarm of fangirls. They were a bit excited and at the same time angry at the fact that it wasn`t them who were sitting there opposite the seemingly gorgeous Hikaru Yaotome of Hey!Say!JUMP.
Airi winced.
“I`m outta here. Gotta study..” she said, fidgeting her knees.
“Oy, where are you going?” Hikaru asked her.
“The library.”

The day was done and Hikaru was clutching his Science exam paper in his hands as he walked back to his house, this time, not a dragged-by-Hikaru Airi in sight. His face was quite stern, and rather serious. Hikaru was deep in thought. The memory played over and over again in his mind. Even when he got home, he was the straight-faced Hikaru no one knew existed.
“Ooh, is baby Hikaru going to cwy?” Airi teased the next day. Hikaru stuck out his tongue and grinned. “It’s been nine years and I`m still winning and winning, Hikaru-chan!”
“Iya, you don`t win all the time,”Kei butted in.
“I meant when it was between me and Hikaru,”Airi rolled her eyes. “You don`t have to boast that you always win when it’s the two of us.”
“Okay, I get it,” Kei chuckled. “Hika, what’s wrong?”
“What? Nothing! It`s just a bummer I lost,”Hikaru snickered. “And to a girl.”
Airi winced. “Yaotome Hikaru you friggin’ jerk! I`m no ordinary girl.”
“I`m no ordinary boy either.”
“What’s so special about you?!”
Hikaru huffed. “I`m the man all the ladies want.”
“Then why don`t I want you?!”
“It’s because you’re not a lady!”
Kei sighed as his two friends continued to throw each other bad puns and were being stared at by his classmates for all the chaos they were causing. His nose flared.
“HAI! HERE’S THE FRIGGIN’ TEST RESULTS FOR JAPANESE LANGUAGE YOU EGGHEADS!!!” he screeched, slamming some paper onto the desk between them. Airi blinked.
“NYAHA! I WIN AGAAAAIN, HIKARU!” she snorted, skipping up and down like the little kid that she was. Hikaru smirked from inside the room as she skidded outside it, not noticing the school bell ringing.

“I win this round, I win this round~” Airi singsonged as Hikaru dragged her down the streets and into their neighborhood. Hikaru chuckled; he was used to her gloating at her every triumphant battle against him.
They reached Airi’s two-storey apartment, and Hikaru let go of her.
“Bye, Hikaru-chan! See you tomorrow!” Airi grinned. “And I can`t wait for you to even out our score!”
Hikaru grinned as well.
“Where are my keys..?”
Hikaru laughed, twirling the keyring in his forefinger.
“Gimme that!” Airi said, reaching out for the keys, Hikaru smiled and kissed her just as she had caught it.
Airi blinked, furrowing her eyebrows. Her hand was still holding on to the keyring Hikaru had in his.
Hikaru grinned as they both broke apart, and laughed at Airi’s shocked face before saying, “Now, we’re even.”
