Wow. Is it a weird mechanical thing? Or were you on it when it happened???

I was riding it when I broke it. I shifted, and may not have had the clutch out far enough.

I'm fine. Bike kept rolling, just wasn't in gear. Was able to limp to a safe point.

I love to tinker. :) It's also an opportunity to BUY TOOLS!!!

Men buy tools like women buy shoes. :) Not 'cause we NEED them, but because our buddies go "ooh!" and "ahh!" ;)

I have to admit I'm really surprised that a transmission failure would kill the engine: do they share lubrication?
It'd be a lot of fun to do an engine rebuild on a bike, but transmission work scares me.

Turns out the transmission is part of the engine casing, unlike on a car.

I should be able to take the engine out, turn it upside down, and take off the lower half, including the transmission.

Then rebuild the transmission...

Have you talked to N about this? He knows a bit about the transmission on that bike.

uumm - although I love my shoes and boots - I have WAY more tools than shoes. - which you are more than welcome to use - I have doubles on alot of things.

"he who dies with the most tools - she gets"
