Okay, so I have a small problem. My mum got me to write down the lyrics for "If You're Happy and You Know It" in Japanese a while back, so she could let her Year One class have a go at it. (My mum is a teaching assistant in a primary school, but she's qualified as a teacher so she ends up doing a lot of cover). Apparently they sang the song and ( Read more... )

Take in anything that looks weird. Kids like weird things.

I don't know anything about Japan so I can't really help but I do know kids are interested in things that are weird. Different cultures tend to count as weird when you're five.

They'll probably just ask you random questions anyway so just be armed with Japan facts!

A lot of weird things I've seen from Japan aren't suitable for children, but facts are an idea :D

Food and Kimono= great ideas. You could also talk about robots, the boys would like that and it balances out the girly kimono stuff. James May did a great program on Japanese robots....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XAO_DTeoVm8&feature=related or http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcDJfnFbMpE&feature=channel that kind of thing, like ASIMO and stuff. Dunno...might be a bit complex.

Geography might be another good one. Let's face it, Japan is quite an amazing country geographically. Earthquakes and volcanoes and mountains etc.

It might be quite difficult to explain the Kanji and things, but I would try to.

I'll let you know if I think of anything else. And ganbatte!

Ooh, robots are a good idea! Geography might work too - I could get a picture of Mt Fuji :)

You could ask learn_japanese. They get questions like that sometimes.

You can't fail with food. If you're allowed, you could bring in takeout sushi for them to try or sth.
