This young guy, Chris Hayes, from The Nation comes on and he and Keith start talking about McCain impeding the crisis legislation plans by adding presidential politics in the mix. Chris Hayes made a great point, in my opinion. To paraphrase, he said something like...
"Two of the most devastating things to happen in the history of the republic happened during the Bush Administration. First, the foreign relations nightmare of the Iraq War. Then, the domestic relations nightmare happening right now: the biggest economic crisis in decades - an event being compared to the eve of the Great Depression. A mismanagement of the government on the grandest, epic scale has just happened over the past 8 years. And here's the kicker - Senator McCain doesn't disagree with any of the steps his party has taken! What do they have to run on? How can they run their campaign without being laughed out of Washington?"
The answer: They have to lie.
Then, he said...
"McCain, the gambler, the well-known gambler, is making an all-in bet on the stupidity of the American people"
Wow. It's true. And it's frightening, isn't it?
Earlier on MSNBC, before Keith, they were talking about how their is a huge split in the Republican party. There are the wall street investors, the business owners, the old-old money, the Christian conservatives. And, then, there are the "libertarian" Republicans... who are the core of the party. The small business owners who don't want taxed, who want de-regulation, who want small government. The real joke is that this libertarian population think that McCain/Palin will represent them in the White House. They won't. Bush didn't and they won't. The libertarians are in the same lower-middle class boat as the rest of us - it's sad that they don't realize that their smaller taxes and better jobs are on the other side of the ballot.
Let me talk about Sarah Palin for a second. And I'll state the obvious. It's painful to watch, people. Watching the Katie Couric interview is just... like... heart-wrenching. She.is.SO.unqualified. It's so obvious that she has rehearsed a set amount of "key terms" to keep herself straight during interviews. "Crisis Mode", "Maverick", "I agree with John McCain", etc. I'm wondering if she will drop out. It is starting to feel like McCain's campaign is just crumbling.
