So my laptop finally died. It was 3yrs 11months 10 days old.

I am thinking of getting a macbook. With the back to school and student discount offer, I get Macbook for 1000$ with free ipod touch (8Gb) and a printer. Do you think its a good deal?

Initially I craved for the robustness of Ubuntu Linux when I got a Mac for myself. But once I got a free license for Vmware fusion, that problem was solved. I have found the mac extremely satisfying than Windows variants. The service from Apple has been top notch as well.

However, I suggest you to first try out a Macbook from some friend or in the store to see if you really like it's key board and all.

The IBM thinkpads are also good, though they are slightly on the costlier side.

But it is the freebies that come with the Mac, that makes it a good deal these days. I got an ipod nano that I gifted to my parents.

Keyboard shouldnt be an issue. Becoz I am used to switching between Solaris and Windows keyboard everyday.

My only concern was to run the applications remotely from the university servers. I will need them for my projects and assignments. I confirmed that it works. Even otherwise, I could just install Windows for that purpose.

I think I will buy Macbook.
