Our well is on solar power.

The kitchen is a complete mess. I've threatened to just throw away all the dishes and buy new ones.

*pats Korith on back*

Where did you guys find the knowledge you needed to do this? I wouldn't have the first idea where to look beyond the Internet and the bookstore.

It did help that I have worked for the local power company in the research and development area.
It also really helped to have a friend on hand who knew about plumbing, and another friend on hand who is an electrician!

Now the real question is where did my farmmates get the patience to deal with my hair pulling, tears, and snap your neck off mood swings in all of this.

same place all my farmmates got the patience to deal with my hair pulling, tears, snapping at people, &c during the yurt deck building process, and the yurt set-up & stove install.

it's 'cause we all love each other, silly. most certainly including you. *hugs*

In a simplistic way, the knowledge of how to do this came from needing to do it. We started talking to people and making phone calls, which put us in touch with more people until we found the right combination of expertise and availability. We had a visible and interesting need.

I can't overestimate our friend Robert's contribution to this project, as his experience with plumbing and generally being handy was a requirement to successfully completing it. Lionel gave us several weeknights and a couple weekend days wiring up the electrical systems and lending his expertise there.

And our existing well didn't work very well, so we learned a lot about the process by keeping that thing running as well.

Once you do a few projects of this sort, you begin to notice a lot of common threads. There are a breathtakingly small number of concepts that are extremely leveraged to make the industrial world go. A lot of what you learn translates very well to the next project.
