Wow, it's kind of nice seeing someone else who knows what NPD is, and what's more, you lived through it as well. My mom isn't the one, but her mother....not so good. My grandmother is crazy, simplest way to put it. She was diagnosed as a high level narrcissist with sociopathic tendencies when I was 10. We finally cut all contact off with her when I was 14, but most of my friends don't really get (and I suspect don't always believe) some of the stories from my childhood. And the stories from my mother's? They make mine look like a stroll through a field of wild flowers. Damage done by mothers (or in my case, grandmothers) with NPD can take years to heal from. I still flinch when I hear the word "lazy" and cringe when I see fake flowers (she had them in every room of the house and I can never see them without thinking of being at her place) and I'm nearly twenty-five years old ( ... )
