As I've gotten older, Christmas has become more and more alienating. i guess i had more jewish friends when i was younger. i've probably been watching too much tv, too. and it doesn't help that my parents are hush hush dreaming of moving to israel and are constantly discussing the anti-semitism they feel here ( Read more... )

Hey there you. I have thought a lot about you these past few weeks as the "Christmas Season" approaches. I remember you talking about the feeling of alienation and I don't think there's anything that would be quite the same for me that I could compare it to. It's weird though because as I sit here and listen to Christmas music, the likes of which has lyrics like "born to raise the sons of earth, born to give us second birth" I never quite know what to think. After all, I'm anything but Christian. I don't believe in God and am usually frustrated with organized religion, Christianity in particular. But nonetheless, Christmas and all that surrounds this time of year, carols included, is what I grew up with and for that I have fond memories. And I like being around my family (and friends) since everyone has a little time off ( ... )

And in that last sentence...since it was so clearly worded I meant, "something you don't [love]." Just thought I'd clear that up; or try to at least.
