Between Us - Peter Bradley Adams
Hey, stranger, or may I call you my own…
It was weird, being this close to Yamada after so long. Yuto brushed Yamada’s fringe away from his face as he leaned on Yuto’s shoulder, tired and sound asleep. A lot of things had changed since they first debuted, and a lot of things blew up in both their faces, and suddenly nothing was the same anymore. But now, now was different. Yuto felt that everything was back to normal, to how it was before, and he felt so much hope-the hope he thought he had lost in the last year.
Yamada stirred in his sleep as their van came to a stop at an intersection, and Yuto kept staring at him. Everyone else was asleep, but Yuto couldn’t. He didn’t want to, not right now. Yamada mumbled something, a word, a name, and it sounded so familiar that it almost made Yuto want to cry. “Yuto-kun…”
Landslide - Fleetwood Mac
Well, I’ve been afraid of changing ‘cause I built my life around you…
It started to become weird when Yamada felt strange feelings in the pit of his stomach (those feelings eventually started to move up to his heart) whenever Yuto was near (near, like, 10 feet away). And one day, Daiki decided to tell him, “It’s love.”
“What?” Yamada looked at him like it was crazy.
“Yama-chan, you’re in love with Yuto.”
“Why would I be?”
“Why wouldn’t you be?” Daiki deadpanned, grinning. And he was right, Yamada thought. Why wouldn’t he be? Yuto was everything to him, from the very start of their career, and it never changed, no matter how hard he tried to avoid it. When Yamada let out a heavy sigh, Daiki knew he had him. “Why don’t you just tell him?”
“He’ll think I’m crazy,” Yamada admitted. “I love him. I’m in love with him. I love him, it’s starting to hurt. I want to tell him that but I can’t.”
Daiki’s face turned a little pale as he replied, “I don’t think you have to.”
Yamada turned to him, curious. “What?” And he saw Daiki staring at the door. Scared out of his own wits, he slowly turned to the direction Daiki was facing, and there he was, just standing there with a flustered look on his face. “Uh, Yuto-kun,” he managed, he, himself, starting to get a little pale. His heart pounded in his chest for what seemed like forever as he waited for Yuto to answer, to scream at him, to tell him that it was wrong. But he didn’t get a verbal reply, and relief washed over him when he saw Yuto smile that smile that told him that everything was okay.
I Don’t Want to Leave - Matthew Perryman Jones
Waiting for love to intervene, save me, ‘cause I don’t want to leave…
When the news about Ryutaro smoking had come out, everyone was, well, disappointed. “You’re underage,” Yabu told him, voice unsurprisingly calm and kind and gentle. It was Yabu. “What were you thinking?” Ryutaro didn’t know that Yabu’s disappointment and lack of actual anger would flick open a switch in his heart, and for once, he actually cared. What’s worse was that, it didn’t affect Yabu the most.
“Ryu-chan, you promised you wouldn’t do it again,” Chinen muttered under his breath, refusing to look at Ryutaro getting dressed after his last performance-for the meantime.
“I’m sorry I didn’t… mean for this to happen,” Ryutaro admitted. But he was tired, and stressed, and stupid, and sixteen.
“You don’t know when you’ll be coming back?”
“I don’t,” Ryutaro mumbled, sitting beside Chinen on the dressing room couch after he had buttoned up his shirt. “But I’ll be back soon, I promise.”
“You said that before,” Chinen said, finally looking at him, tears glistening in his eyes, and Ryutaro could hear his heart breaking even more. “You promised me before.”
Ryutaro sighed, pulling Chinen close to plant a kiss on his temple. He held Chinen close for a few more moments before pulling away and picking up his things. “I’ll be back soon,” Ryutaro repeated, much more quietly this time. “I won’t promise anything anymore, but I will be back for you.”
“I’ll be waiting,” Chinen answered, watching Ryutaro walk out the door, and putting his life on hold for who knows how long.
Like We Used To - A Rocket to the Moon
Will he love you like I love you? Will he tell you every day?
Yamada was now with Daiki, and Yuto had come to accept that fact. But that didn’t mean it didn’t hurt him. But now Yamada was beside him, sound asleep, in their hotel room. That habit of crawling into bed with one another-which they developed from way before-never changed. Yuto was thankful for that, at least, as he ran a hand gently through Yamada’s hair, and Yuto knew that he could be so much better than Daiki if Yamada gave him a chance.
Yuto pulled his hand back when Yamada started to stir beside him. He watched as Yamada blinked away sleep to look at Yuto, a small smile forming on his lips as he poked Yuto’s cheek. “Hey,” he said, groggy and still overcome with sleep. “You’re still awake.”
Yuto nodded, smiling back. “I like watching you sleep.”
“Now, where have I heard that before?” Yamada chuckled, snuggling closer to Yuto. It wasn’t a big deal. They’ve done this a lot before.
“Hm, I don’t know,” Yuto replied, nuzzling Yamada’s hair. It still smelled of strawberries, and nostalgia overcame him for a second. It really was like nothing had changed. “You tell me.”
Yamada smiled, closing his eyes. “You always told me that before.”
“Did I?” Yuto asked, always he knew quite well that he did. He wouldn’t forget.
Yamada nodded, eyes still closed, mumbling, “Go to sleep, Yuto.”
Yuto smiled (maybe he could live with this for awhile more), and let his head rest on his pillow, an arm around Yamada’s waist. “Good night, Yama-chan.”
She’s Killing Me - A Rocket to the Moon
And even though it hurts, she’s my favorite pain…
It was a universally accepted fact that Chinen was, and will always be, a brat. Daiki loved him, adored him, and cherished him, and they weren’t sure why. “I mean, he’s just… a bitch,” Yamada said in between his strawberry sundae, as they hung out in an ice cream parlor one day when they were free of schedules.
Yuto poked his banana split with his spoon. “More like Daiki’s the bitch here.”
“Hey!” Daiki protested, dropping his spoon back on the table, halfway through his chocolate parfait. “He isn’t that much more of a brat than you, guys, are!”
Yamada and Yuto both looked at him skeptically, and Daiki knew when to keep his mouth shut. “Just, you know,” he continued, picking up his spoon again. “He’s not that bad.”
“Love really is blind, huh, Yama-chan?” Yuto sighed, feigning disappointment.
Yamada teased, “Now I know why I’m in love with you.”
“Rude,” Yuto replied, chuckling.
Daiki watched them and sometimes wished that he and Chinen could be as sweet as the two of them. But it wasn’t like Chinen was never sweet. Daiki liked it when Chinen sat on his lap and hugged him (and all those other stuff Chinen did when he was in a good mood).
“Dai-chan!”
“Speak of the devil,” Yuto said, grinning and turning to Yamada, who just pursed his lips in return, finishing off his strawberry sundae.
Chinen bounced to Daiki’s side and gave the other two a suspicious glare. “Dai-chan, I’m bored so I thought I’d come here earlier for our date. Is that fine?”
And Daiki knew better than to say no, so he nodded with a smile. He bid the other two goodbye and see-you-later as he walked with Chinen, hand-in-hand, out of the shop.
“He is so whipped,” Yamada said when he was sure they were out of hearing distance.
Yuto laughed. “Totally.”
