Wow! When I wasn't laughing I was actually a bit choked up at how damned right it is. Mind if I paste that in mine? Credit you if yes? Didn't know how widely you wanted it shared, no matter how obvious that may seem, heh.
glad to "see" you around more - i'm a -HORRIBLE- lj checker - like, once every 3 weeks or so. have to get better with that and yes, please pass it on to any and everyone you can.
miss ya dear - c'mon down to Tampa and give a visit sometime, eh? (hug)
thanks - a friend of mine at work (who is wonderfully twisted, as is her bro who sent the article) forwarded it to me - i just had to share because y'all would "understand".
damn, i'm quotes happy today, aren't i?
miss you! can't wait to catch up with you and yer sweetheart again soon...
YAAAAAAAAAY Styx!! errr, yay?aishlynnJanuary 27 2005, 11:57:54 UTC
Right you are!!!
ok, so i'm not a total prog rock fan - i can sure appreciate it for the most part tho'...
but if i'm not mistaken, Tori Amos and the Barenaked Ladies are from Canookada (my term of endearment for the native buffalo, NY'ers "51st state")...and that certainly earns them kudos in my book, regardless of their prog rock past successes/sins.
heh:)
so, you two doing CG3?? it was fabulous seeing you both!
Thanks for sharing that! Yup...I couldn't have said any of that any better than this author did. Yup. Kinda makes you want to pack up and move...doesn't it? ;)
Not after seeing violent anti-Israeli propaganda all over the grounds of Toronto's UT during SynthPop Goes the World. Even spray painted on the sidewalks.
Unemployed people, radicals at that, with too much time on their hands is a bad thing. Let's hope the skin heads from Montreal swing by and kick those kids asses to keep them in line.
Granted that sucks re: anti-Israeli propaganda. But, I sure as hell wouldn't mind seeing some radicals shake things up. Particularly with the Bush Regime. Things have definitely swung extremely right these days...I seriously doubt things will "level out" with the current administration. I doubt we will see any positive social reform in this country any time soon as things shift drastically to the right (to my disgust). Too many things these days are seeming like one particular Margaret Atwood novel...
Then again..that's just my two cents...and I know you and I do not see eye to eye re: political issues.
Nice piece. They do leave out Canada's economic problems and the manner in which the society has radically changed and factionalized due to massive waves of immigration in the 80s and 90s.
But it s a beautiful place and a testimony to how big cities and big industrialization doesn't really lead to happiness.
If you can work your way toward accepting gov't counted unemployment in the upper 40-60% zone, and the huge taxes paid by working folks, then it's your cup of tea.
As for the rest - well, America's vocal minorities are a bunch of asses for trying to dictate what's right and what's wrong with some kind of moral rationaliztion. But that's not new.
As for me, once Social Security has direct deposit I'll keep my accounts in the U.S. and move south into the cheap Latin American nations where even after this privatization scheme goes kaboom I'll still be able to live like a king on $400 per month.

Maybe I can even afford a snow maker there.
