"In spite of everything, I still believe that people are good at heart." - Anne Frank
It's far too easy to take the cynical, safe route these days. Everywhere we look, we have the fact that the world is a rotten place thrown in our faces. It takes an enormous amount to faith to do the "right thing" in light of this, and the fact that you've tried to do so makes me honored to know you.
You know, I'm a horrible bitch and I give people money when I know that intellectually I probably shouldn't. We gave a guy $50 once who was hysterically crying at an ATM because the branch was closed and their TTY customer service machine wasn't working and after we got on the phone with the customer service people to mediate, it became obvious they would not help the guy because it was Saturday and the branch was closed, regardless of the communication issues

I probably would have done the same thing as you and would be feeling the same way now. I agree with the other comments here. It's wonderful to know that people will still help each other in this way.
If you're concerned about being cased, you might let your other neighbors know what happened so that if they see anyone suspicious around they'll know what's up.
I'm clearly too emotional - reading this made me tear up for her. I so would have done it... Actaully, probably would have offered a ride. Hope you and Rafe are both doing well.
