My bet is that the quote is from very early Gorz - by the time he wrote Critique of Economic Reason and Paths to Paradise he had dispensed with this old orthodox marxism that applied crude categories like 'the working class' versus 'the ruling class.' He also said that a lot of his early writings were rubbish - I bet he would have included this on that list! Gorz's sophisticated analysis after 1988 has, however, stood the test of time.
Oh, and look out for the French transation of Moishe Postone's 'Time, Labor and Social Domination' which is out in January 2009 - Postone comes highly recommended by Andre Gorz.

And I wonder, how did you stumble on this blog, since it is rather small? Are you, in some way, monitoring entries on Gorz ;)?
