Contemplation and 'ships in the TVD-verse....

So I get that shows have love triangles because it heightens the drama and gives fans a chosen couple to cheer over and favor.  I've never had a problem with the main Stefan/Elena/Damon love triangle on TVD because I always thought it was well thought out, realistic, and true to all the characters' personalities and actions ( Read more... )

I really disagree. I think that Damon/Elena have been set up beautifully leading into this season and the stuff with them has been awesome. I've gone completely spoiler-free (for the most part) because I've learned that due to expectation and worry, you go all fan-mad-aaaahhhh!!!! As I did last season The ONLY time I've been upset this season was because I was spoiled, and all of the things I was spoiled about that upset me were totally awesome on the show.

I love this show. I think it's brilliant. And I can't understand the negativity towards it. As for Heroes, that fell apart after one season. TVD is still going strong and kicking ass four seasons later.

See, I think the over-reading of spoilers really is my problem. And, in a way, for me this is really the second season because I fell in love with TVD in fall 2011 and then muscled my way through season one and two on Netflix in about a month and then caught up with the fall episodes via iTunes over the next couple weeks... so I got all the first 2 1/2 seasons in about three months! I'm hoping the inconsistencies I'm seeing in the writing are just all the spoilers and expectations screwing with my head! And yes, I'll give you that Heroes definitely fell apart after just one season (even if we were all hoping it was just a sophomore slump initially ( ... )

I think it's that (which was part of my problem last season) and one other thing which I came to terms with over the summer hiatus. TVD is not a one episode, one arc, one-batch, one season journey kind of storytelling. Based on everything we've seen and things that KW and JP have said, this show is a SIX-season arc. So until the show is over, I'm holding off complaints.

For example, people groused that they just dropped Stefan/Rebekah. No, they didn't, they just waited to played it until it made sense to do so. Rebekah flat-out said in 3.06 that she was putting him on the backburner until he treated her better, and that's exactly what happened. Katherine/Elijah, again, not dropped, simply saved for when it would work best. The Stefan-Ripper arc has NOT been dropped (despite people constantly saying that). It's so very obvious that it is a huge part of Stefan's journey and we are still seeing it work out with two seasons left to go.

I got all the first 2 1/ ( ... )
