I <3 NYC

Apr 20, 2008 00:05

So Wednesday I got up at 5:00 to be at school at 6:45 to leave at 7:00 for NYC. Mr. Forcucci bought doughnuts and Kristin Martz brought these AMAZING chocolate chip muffinsssssssss! We took two vans:
Van 1: Me, Jara, Ellen, Brittany, James, Megan, Robert, Mr. Forcucci driving.
Van 2: Kadie, Emily, Kelly, Sadie, Sarah, Evan, Kristin, Mr. Schneck driving.

Let me just say that I often have days when I really don't like Megan and Brittany... Wednesday was definitely one of them. Just the sound of Megan's voice got on my last nerve. She's so whiny, too, gosh.

Anyway. Several fun things happened on the way up.
1. Just before we get out of the school parking lot, Mr. Forcucci remembers that Sarah had gone to the bathroom before we left. He suddenly yells, "WE FORGOT SARAH! SHIT!" and like violently swings the van into a parking space and Schneck pulls in behind him... with Sarah in the front seat.
2. We get to a rest stop and Kristin squishes me a muffin out the window.
3. We decide to listen to music on the way up. On ppl's iPods plugged into the stereo. That day's selections included: Baby Got Back (yeahhhhh), Low, and of course, Fantasy (Ludakris). Which, of course, is like really disgusting and I thought Mr. Forcucci was going to freak out but... he didn't.

I was really uncomfortable in the back, the seats weren't comfortable to me. But. We had fun. And Kadie texted me from the other van and was like, "Um, yeah. So we saw you dancing from behind you on the highway and um... you can't dance." lol We were being stupid, like doing the wave and whatever.

Forcucci brought a cooler full of drinks, the rest of the doughnuts, and stuff for us lol He's awesome.

We get to the... the ferry that begins with a W? Like... Wa...something. Anyway. We do that. Forcucci and Schneck are chivalrous and park the vans for us, and we get these $15.00 round-trip tickets. Then we get on the ferry and go to the cityyyyyyyyyy!

We rode a crowded bus into... well, around Times Square where the giant fountain is. And we took a group photo and then split off into groups. It was Jara, Me, Ellen, Evan, Rob, Britt, Megs, and James and then the others and Mr. Scheck and Forcucci went off another direction. But okay... we looked for a place to eat and Megs wants to go to McDonald's. Well. We all have to do what she wants to do, naturally *cough* So like. I was all, "IT'S NYC, LET'S EAT SOMEWHERE SPECIAL" but she was like, "No." So whatever, I didn't realize it but Jara and Ellen and Evan split off to go eat somewhere else and I had followed Megan and the others to McDonald's. And then I spent the whole time barely talking and being ignored, all except for James who smiled at me occasionally.

Megan gets like that sometimes.
Like.
She doesn't even know it, but she pays attention only to Brittany and her boyfriend and shuts everyone else out. That, and her voice is freaking annoying and she whines about stuff. And talks about stuff no one cares about and we have to pretend or else be shut out more.

Anyway. Jara and the others met us as we were walking out and I wanted to go to Central park, but no, everyone thought it would take us too long to get there and we'd "miss the show". Megan freaked out about being late to the show, which was dumb because we could get there in like 5 minutes from where we were anyway. The show's Young Frankenstein and it's on 42nd street. We walk around 7th and 6th avenues and I get super bored looking for something cool. We walked up and down 7th like FOUR TIMES, it was obnoxious, and all the while Megan was like, "We have to get to the theater soon!" We did stop in some cool places, like this record store... I forget what it was called, began with a C and I KNEW I'd forget it... and the Hershey store and the MTV store, Element, and Billabong.

I tried haggling with this guy for a knock-off purse but he WOULD NOT GIVE... that and I suck at it. I was like, "I think $15 is good" and he was like, "Nope, $25" and I wa slike, "I am not paying over $20" and he was like, "$25 is my final prie." Mean. So... I decided to forego this option. Megan would point out other places for me to get them and wait with me while I searched, but I didn't like any other ones >.> She was actually being a good friend in THAT respect...

Let me pause and talk about the weather.
The weather
was
freaking
amazing!
Like, okay, CLEAR skies. BEAUTIFUL sunshine. Apparently it was better weather in NYC than most people DREAM about! I was so excited, it felt so invigorating just to walk down the crowded streets and immerse yourself in it. Yeah, it smelled in a few places but like. I LOVED it. And people weren't nearly as mean as I thought they were, people bumped me and they DID say "excuse me"... but I think they were tourists, too, so that's probably why lol I saw some really awesome outfits and well-dressed people, and some who weren't so good-looking... I SWEAR I saw a stripper, but she looked really really gross. That or she was a cheap prostitute, she HAD to be... no one looks like that and ISN'T one. But like. Besides holding onto my bag at all times, it was so great! I loved it. Maybe not who I was WITH, but I loved IT.

Walked with Evan and Rob a lot.

And we ended up being like 40 minutes early to the show WHEN WE COULD HAVE GONE TO CENTRAL PARK OR SOME OTHER COOL PLACES INSTEAD OF WANDERING AROUNDDDDDDDDDDDD. And Ellen changed into these like high heels and I changed my shoes from sneakers (thanks for the tip, Ginger, my feet didn't hurt the entire time) to flats once... inside... the theater. lol This old man stared at me.

Okay, so our seats sucked... We were in the balcony, rows D-G. LAST TIME WHEN OUR SHOW GOT CANCELLED BECAUSE OF THE STRIKE, WE WERE IN THE FOURTH ROW, CENTERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! ORCHESTRA. FOR THE LION KING! I am SO mad. SO bummed. But like. Come on.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XY8T2g5J1cs&feature=related Click this to see the montage of the show. And Robert Bart's voice at the end, yelling "HE'S ALIVE!"

I sat next to Kelly and Emily. Kelly, I think, was miserable because Kadie... Kadie smells REALLY bad, and she sat next to Kelly. And EVERYONE knows Kadie smells, and like. It isn't an "earthy" smell, as James puts it. It's an unnatural smell, not one that comes from the body but it must be something the puts on or something! But it gets progressively worse throughout the day. We can't figure it out! But it's like SUPER bad, you just can't explain the way it smells. But I mean, i was two seats away and I smelled it! There was a draft in the theater, thank goodness, but once it blew the scent directly to me and I like exclaimed and gagged in the middle of the show. Kelly was really dying, though, I felt REALLY bad!

The show... Young Frankenstein... I mean, it's exactly like the movie. Same lines. Same everything. Only it's broadway, so it's got music and the actors amaze me with their talent and amazing voices. I didn't really care for the movie, though >.> And there was something sexual in EVERY scene... which I really don't care for sex humor. Like. At all. It just doesn't appeal to me. So I was kind of like, "WHY DID I COME!" for the first half, although Frau Blucher (*cue the horses*) was like my favorite thing ever! That actress was AMAZING, too! She was SO FUNNY, even though I knew what she was getting ready to say, her actions made it SO GOOD! She sings this song called "He Vas My Boyfriend" and it was of course, sexual, but it was really funny, too!

Oh, another favorite was in the beginning when Frederick's all, "As you can see even though I just smashed my knee into his crotch
He does react, he feels absolutely nothing
(Mr. Hilltop moans in pain)
... More or less." *(See my paragraph about Robert Bart's voice for the music that goes with that scene.)

What else made it comical? MR. SCHNECK SITTING BEHIND US! He was like CACKLING and when he dies of laughter, he sounds like a woman laughing outrageously so it took me a LONG time to realize it wasn't some really loud woman... it was Mr. Schneck... Ha. It was awesome.

I also liked the part at the end:
Frau (spoken)
"Excuse me, doctor, creature, everyone, I must go, I have a blind date" *WHICH WAS HILARIOUS BTWWW*

Igor(spoken)
"Its a miracle, my hump, its gone!"

Crowd(spoken)
"Yeah!"

Igor(spoken)
"Oh, Wait, its in the middle now"
*it was funny because, you know, his hump changes sides of his body a lot.*

The man who played Frederick FrankenSTEEN (ha) his voice was like AMAZING! Robert Bart. This video has the song that shows you his voice and amazingness of it, although it doesn't show HIM v.v Sorry, the video is Yu-gi-oh or however you spell that show. But yeah. Listennnnnnn I love this man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9BVqOdPDYZs Please PLEASE, if you listen to any part at all, go to like 3:25. Or 3:30, if you want to cut it really short. It's the scene where Dr. Frankenstein is using a test subject to show how you can stop reflexes and he like knees this guy in the crotch. When Robert screams "BASTARD!" his voice is downright awesome. I loved it. And go to 4:21 to hear my favorite part of the whole song, it shows Robert's incredible abilities further.

Let me now mention Christopher Fitzgerald. He is SO FUNNY and SO TALENTED and my gosh, HE PLAYED BOQ IN WICKEDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD! That makes me like him even more. He's so quirky and when you see interviews with him, you know he's someone you'd always want to hang around because he's just so darn cool and hilarious. Like. That's just HIM. And his English accent is brillianttttt! I'm a new fan of his, he's incredible, I like him even more than Robert Bart!

The girl who played Inga in our particular show was... I didn't like her much. She sang well, duh, but her accent seemed to suck. It was supposed to be Transylvanian... I didn't buy it.

My favorite songs were the Transylvania Mania, The Brain, Join the Family Business, and Life Life.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZM2UWJt8iY0&feature=related
This is a perfect example of Christopher Fitzgerald. Being like incredible and quirky.

So the effects were like AMAZING! There were giant orbs with electrical charges running through them, TONS of lightning, giant sparks going everywhere, it was SO COOL! And during Putting on the Ritz, Robert Bart calls and the lights go out and flicker every beat so it looks like the dancers are like moving in slow motion and stuff, it's INCREDIBLE!

The curtain call was really good, too! It wasn't just like "Yay, we're walking on stage, clap now!" I mean, Elizabeth comes in through the floor, dancers move around fancily, the monster yells, "PUNNONTHERIZZZZZZZZ" when he comes out, and they all sing a song when they're all together.

So yeah, when the show was over we all went to the bathroom and split up again.
It was so dumb though, I was with the same group (you'd think I'd have learned by then) and I kept going "Central park" and "Let's go go Central Park" and "I've never been" and Megan was like, "I haven't either" and so did everyone else so I was like "THEN LET'S GO!" and Megan was all, "I don't think we have timeeeeeeeee... *makes four thousand excuses*" So everyone agreed with her, of course, because they feel they have to for some reason.
And we didn't go.
I'd only made it my goal to go there SINCE I FOUND OUT WE WERE GOING. Like. Wtf.
Megan said it was because she "didn't want to have to run." When other groups had made it there and back in less time.

What I didn't know was that Evan and Rob were going. Evan said I should've gone with him >.>

But yeah, so we went to an NYC starbucks, and I got a double chocolate chip frappuccino. I'd only had Starbucks once anyway, so. This was goodddd! But we had to wait half an hour to get it, I'm not even joking. That place screwed up like half the orders, and it was a long line just to get drinks. They couldn't make them right or make them fast enough. It was freaking ridiculous but finally I got mine.

And I did get my way with the whole 5th avenue thing. I suggested we all walk along that street, since Megan voted out my first idea *cough*, so we went. I felt left out as we walked, it was dumb and I shouldn't have, but I was really mad so I stayed by myself and didn't atlk to them. I just watched the sights and stopped thinking about how much they were all bothering me. And we went and walked and saw the sights and St. Patrick's Cathedral and stuff. I was kind of spellbound by it all.

I'd already seen the cathedral the first time I ever went to NYC, but it was nice, so. At least I got to see SOMETHING >.> It's better than just going to NYC and walking around just STORES.

And yeah, then we met back at the fountain. I didn't see any pennies in there, but after much debate and much watching for cops (there was one in front of us, but his back was turned) James told me to throw it in and I tossed it over my head and made a wishhhh! Into the fountain, it went! I was thrilled, I thwarted the law and did something in-the-moment.

But it wasn't complete without me asking Mr. Forcucci if I could run over to FOX News for a quick sec. It was like a block from where we were, right across from the giant fountain. I figured that as much grief as the others *megan* had given me, I deserved to do something on my own, too. Emily went with me! We complained to each other about Megan's annoying voice and the Central Park thing as well as Kadie's stench and how she was getting on Emily's nerves as we walked. It felt good. And she took pictures of me in front of my future place of workkkkkk! I was excited, it was the most fun I had because we were just freely roaming the city without a big group, just us, and we felt totally comfortable doing it. It amazed me that I could feel like that in such a big place, I felt like I belonged for that moment. It was really nice! We were being rebels and stuff, jaywalking and all. Ha.

And then we all caught a bus to go back to the ferry! I asked this man if I could sit next to him, with Kelly and Kadie and her stench behind me. But what's funny is that the bus like stopped in the middle of the road. We were like, "Wtf" and then the driver started revving the engine and we did another "wtf" and the bus just... gave out... after that.

IT WAS SO FUNNY!
Evan's face, when I looked back at him, was priceless.
So we all got out and people behind us were honking and it was like AMAZING that we caused this humongous (please teach me the correct spelling of that word!) traffic jam!!!!

So we walked the rest of the way to the ferry. Which took us a good... 15 minutes?

Sarah and I talked along the way. It was actually nice, though, because you know I kind of hated her but she was a really good friend the rest of the trip! Like, she and I talked about Megan and how much she was annoying us and we were sick of it, and about how Sarah's the Key Club Governor of our entire giant region (yeah, I think she's a little full of herself because of that, but she really does work incredibly hard at it and she loves it and loves helping people, so, whatever, I'll forgive her... this week.)

And we got to the ferry and went over, it was really niceeeeeeeeeeeee! I sat with Evan and Rob and Mr. Forcucci and Mr. Schneck.

They went and got the vans again, Mr. Schneck was like, "IT'S CALLED CHIVALRY." Ha.

And okay, we all ran to pile in Forucci's bus... but it was kind of miserable, it was 8 people in a seven-person van. Because Evan sneaked into ours since he wasn't in it in the first place. It really annoyed me, though... not that Evan sneaked in, because I love him and I wante dhim to, but Megan. Gosh, I wanted to slap her. I had grabbed the seat Brittany sat in on the way up, so James was left without a seat and she was like, "Guys, James has to sit with meeeeeeeeeee, OMG, James you are not getting in that other van, this sucks, guysssssss" and moaning and being annoying and wtf, she made it seem like this was my fault when it was actually Evan's for screwing up the system. But like. I didn't move, I didn't have to and I didn't want to. So whatever.

We had some fun times, though, despite me being shoved against a window and being significantly ticked off and Megan, who had the nerve to tell Jara to stop talking so loudly behind her because "she had a migraine." Like, oh, it's enough to make Jara shut up behind you, but you can moan about James having to sit on the floor beside you and not be bothered? DOESN'T THE SOUND OF YOUR OWN ANNOYING VOICE CAUSE YOUR MIGRAINE TO WORSEN?

Ick.
But anyway.
At one point, James was telling an amusing story about how he used to pluralize everything with an i instead of an S... like octopi, only he'd do it with everything... like Horsi for horses and stuff. So Ellen was like, "WAIT... WOULD 'PEOPLE' BE PEOPI?" And James is like, "... Ellen... People's already plural."

AND THE WHOLE BUS DIES LAUGHING! Mr. Forcucci, esp., because he's our AP ENGLISH TEACHER. Ha. It was amazing.

But nevertheless, I didn't enjoy myself. Despite all of our chatter about Kadie's stench. Ha.

So when we stopped at a rest stop, I decided I'd switch vans. Sarah invited me to hers. She was so nice, like, there was a pizza hut there and we ordered personal pan pizzas, right, but they had to cook both hers and mine because the already-made ones were taken by the others by the time we got through the line, and when hers was ready she waited the extra five minutes for me to get mine. And we had a chance to talk, especially about Megan. Like. I'm so not alone in my feelings about her. She can be a really great friend, but it's like an on-and-off thing. And this week, it was SO off. I hate girls like that, but it's never been as bad as it was on this NYC trip. Like. Whatever, a lot of people see through it and her. I'm coming to realize it.

So yeah, then we sat at a table with Mr. Schneck and Kelly because everyone else had stolen a giant table and it was full by the time we got there. So more chatting.

And we went to the bathroom and while we were in there, everyone else filled up the vans.
And I wasn't going to jump in and over-crowd Forcucci's van again.
Not that they'd miss me, anyway.

So I went into Schneck's.

THE DIFFERENCE, OH THE DIFFERENCE! Like. I was immediately welcomed and Kristin offered me some leftover muffins (I had one and split another with Sarah) and it was just so much... friendlier and warmer in that van. I was so much happier, I knew I'd made the right choice. And Schneck provided some lively conversation. The van had apparently been pretty quiet until I came in, so it was nice that I got them all talking and stuff. Sadie didn't feel good v.v But she didn't complain about it like Megan did, and she was sicker than Megan. I sat next to her and you wouldn't even know she was sick if she hadn't, like, eaten in the van and tried to sleep after a while.

It wasn't of the hilarious laughter caliber of the one in Forucci's van, and we didn't play loud and nasty rap, but like. It was just nicer. I felt better and people PAID ATTENTION TO ME. I didn't have to fight to pretend I was having a good time, I just... was.

And we got into a discussion about our school system, and Mr. Schneck told us a story about some girl who tried to beat him up a few weeks ago (which is funny, since he's the wrestling coach and he may be small and short, but he's loud and muscular) and it took three administrators to hold her back, it was actually the dean of discipline, too! Ha. So yeah, she got suspended for three days because she cussed at him and tried to hit him. That's when Sadie started talking about school fights and Erin's deal with the school bus way over in the other side of the country! lol Yeah. I was about to be like, "Yeah, I know that girl..." but I didn't say it. I just feel really proud to know someone as headstrong as you, Erinnnnn!

Anyway.
So toward the end we all got tired of discussing college and school systems and fights and who was retiring from Tech and bad teachers like Mrs. Jacques and stuff, so everyone started falling asleep. Mr. Schneck and I talked for a while, I tried to fall asleep on Sadie and she ended up falling asleep across me. I couldn't rest, though. I mean. I hate that feeling when you can't sleep, but everyone else is so you have no one else to talk to...

And I thought the songs from Young Frankenstein wouldn't get in my head, but they did, which made me feel better about the show that they were good enough to stick with me.

At one point Kadie's stench got REALLY STRONG. I put my sweatshirt over my nose and texted Evan about it, and apparently he shared it with the other van members and they all told me they were sorry v.v But Kadie then got in a verbal argument with Emily, but it was Kadie's fault. Like. She's really cool but she's from the Bronx actually, so she lashes out sometimes. And she was quiet the rest of the way back, except when she asked to stop in a random Friendly's so she could use the bathroom. And when her friend called her and she talked to him for like 30 minutes while everyone else slept.

Anyway. Yeah, I told the people in the other van that I wanted them all to wear their seatbelts (no one did when it was overcrowded) and that I wnated them to all have space, and so that's why I switched vans, and Megan was like, "Aw, thanks girl!" and I was like, "Whatever not like you cared anyway" in my head. But yeah. She thinks we're still good.

Um. So yeah, then we got back and Schneck dropped us off individually at our cars. I felt like falling asleep on the way home, and I did fall asleep in my bed as soon as I got there. With my clothes still on.

But despite all the problems I had with Megan and not feeling happy with the group of "friends" I hung with while in the city, I really did have fun. And I know that's where I want to be professionally once I graduate college. It's nice to know that I really do love the city, because since I'm a country girl born and raised, I was a little concerned. I did like the show, after all, and it was a good experience.

I'm totally going back in the next year, though, to see Central park. And PotO, since I'm going to miss it on the seventh of May v.v Darn Secretary of Education Award banquet at the Sheraton >.>

new york city, megan gets on my nerves
