Fangirl Time: Two

Just finished the latest Sherlock instalment, and there's such a bitter-sweet element about that. See, I've loved the stories since I read them for a French class way back in primary school. When I picked them up later, in English, it was like reading them for the first time, and finally catching the nuances that were lost in the language barrier. And, like Lord of the Rings, they're the sort of stories I can come back to at a later time, in a different mood, and pick up on different things-- different themes, turns of phrase, elements and tones. I try to make a habit of them, because, like with Gormenghast and LotR, I'm addicted and need to get my literature fix every so often. But it all boils down to the same thing in the end: I'm a Sherlockian, and have been for a fair amount of years-- the fangirl phase and fandom interest only sparked to proper life by Benedict Cumberbatch's brilliant acting and beautiful eyes.

So after watching the "Hound of Baskerville" episode (brilliant, by the way, and I love the alterations done to not only keep the stories fresh, but modernize them and keep the contemporary feel that the originals must have had), I'm reminded that Reichenbach is the next story.

I love Sherlock. I love that they kept him a jerk, an addicted, and an absolutely brilliantly mad sociopath. I really, really dread Reichenbach. And, logically, I know that there are stories that come afterwards-- the three year hiatus, etc.-- but the politics behind those original publications aren't the sort to reassure a fan. It's like what's going on with the Doctor-- I love the Eleventh, but the story is plotted out, and I know how Moffat and Gatiss seem to work together well enough to know that they have these plots stretched out a few steps ahead of anyone else; not just for filming purposes, but for the actual story. And the "Fall of the Eleventh" is coming due.

So, while I am absolutely fangirling over the most recent Sherlock, I'm still caught up in the dread of the Final Problem. So I'm just going to rewatch that lovely scene where Sherlock beats the shit out of the CIA agent, and stay on to my happy little "fix-it" fics.

And I can't believe how hard I ship Lestrade/Sherlock right now. Fairly disturbing.
